I suspect that we all have these random things about ourselves that most people do not know.  If you are reading this, I invite you to share your random facts in the comments on my blog.  The comments on my blog are not published, but I certainly read them, and I will message you back, if you leave a valid email address.

So, random facts about me…..

  • I love, seriously LOVE figs.  They literally take me to a happy place when I eat them.  I like them cooked in fine cuisine and on a salad with goat cheese.  What makes them special is that they are not all over the place; most likely, I would not love them so much if they were more readily available.  Figs make me happy.
  • I love stuffed animals, live animals too.   My favorite toys as a child were all stuffed animals.  I had a Snoopy Snow Cone Machine, which rocked.  Aside from that, my stuffed animals were the only toys that I cared about.  I had Floppy, a small stuffed rabbit, and my sister had Theodore, a stuffed gray teddy bear.  Floppy and Theodore were sort of like imaginary friends.  As a parent, I was sad when my kids grew out of the “stuffed animal” phase.
  • I love people.  I am extremely curious about humans.  I wonder how they feel, what drives them, what they think.  I wonder what their life story is.  I wonder how they arrived to where they are now.  Seeing other people that are happy makes me happy.  I do not really understand the Facebook memes that slight humans, and champion the hate people, and promote the “love being alone” concept of today’s society.  I do enjoy time to myself, and I do fully appreciate shyness and social anxiety, I have spells of both myself, but this has nothing to do with how one feels about humans.
  • I am scared of heights and going down on escalators.  Every time that I step onto a down escalator, my hands feel weak and begin to sweat, my feet become numb, and there is a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach.  Sort of like the first time a boy ever held my hand.  I am not going to lie, that is not a feeling I am seeking.
  • Soup, I love soup!  I could eat soup every day.  My only soup challenge is that I do not eat a great deal of salt, so often times restaurant soup seems really salty to me.  Clam and seafood chowders, vegetable, minestrone and Thai soups are among my favorites.
  • I have only once in my entire life received a Valentine’s gift from a significant other.  It was a great gift, very thoughtful.  But, what about all of those other years?
  • I was the high school mascot.  We were the bulldogs, so I was the school dog.
  • Height and income are completely irrelevant to me in the dating world.   What matters is having passion for what one does, working hard, being kind to others and being confident in one’s self.  Also, remembering figs and chocolates on Valentine’s Day.  I mean really get with the program, already.  Height does not enable any of these things that actually matter, except maybe confidence.  Honestly, shorter guys often have more confidence.    You do not need to have a lot of money, but you do need to have enough money to provide for yourself and your children.  Meet your financial responsibilities, not mine, and expect the same in return.
  • God made man and woman after he created the rest of his amazing creation.  Genesis says that God made man to look after all that he had created and woman to keep man company.   I do not take this lightly.  God made humans to take care of the animals that he created.   Cruelty to animals is unthinkable, it defies our entire reason for existing.  No, I am not bothered by the idea that my gender was created to keep man company.  Being a companion to a kind, hard working man is not secondary.  For me, nothing about this suggests that a woman cannot live on her own or have a great career in a man’s world.  It just suggests to me, that we were meant to be in pairs and meant to love one another.
  • My first day of high school, I went to the funeral for my 16-year-old cousin.  I have never stopped mourning for him.  I often think about this.  Every minute I had beyond 16, are minutes that he never had.  Life is so fragile; it is such a beautiful gift.
  • As a child, I wanted to be a writer when I grew up.  I had amazing teachers, namely Ms. Meckel and Ms. Young that encouraged my dream, and I am forever grateful for this. My childhood friend, Chris Gonzales shared my love for writing.  We wrote some pretty cool stuff together in our middle school and high school years.  Chris has gone on to be with our Lord.  Ms. Meckel and Ms. Young were there to mourn the passing of our friend.  Teachers never stop believing in or caring about their students.  My father shared my dream of writing a book that would be published one day.  Most are fortunate to have one person that believed their dreams, I had my teachers, Chris and Dad.  I am beyond fortunate.

This post is all over the place, but it feels so good to be writing again.
