Little Chirp loves to hear bedtime stories starring his favorite stuffed animals and of course his own self. After I finish a story, he will often make one of his stuffed animals request a story of their own. We then make up the title for the story. I always tell him he has to wait until the next day to hear it. I wonder when he will realize that I can not tell the story right then because I need the following day to conjure up the story.
My favorite part of bedtime story telling is when Little Chirp corrects me about the story. I think to myself, “Sweet little bird, I made the story up. The story will go how I say it goes!”
In light of these debates, I have decided to capture some of the stories in my blog. We will start with the classic, Ruffy Has No Friends. This family favorite was originally titled, Puppy Has No Friends. When Brainy Bird was around three he had a stuffed puppy named Puppy. The story starred Puppy and Brainy Bird. Years later, the story was adapted for Little Chirp and his own stuffed puppy, and favorite lovey who is named Ruffy.
The Story Goes Like This…
Once upon a time there was a little puppy named Ruffy. Ruffy was a sweet little puppy that loved to play ball, but Ruffy was sad because he did not have any friends. Ruffy decided that he would find a friend that he could play with.
He set out on his journey to find a friend, and he came upon a cow. Ruffy said to the cow, “Cow will you be my friend?”
“Moo,” said the Cow, “You are a puppy and I am a cow; I can not be friends with you. Now moooove out of my way.”
This made Ruffy sad. He had really been hoping that him and Cow could be friends, but he did not get discouraged. He decided to ask another animal to be his friend.
Ruffy walked along and he came upon a flock of geese. Ruffy said to the geese, “Geese will you all be my friends?”
“Honk, honk!” said the geese,”We can not be friends with you. We are birds, and we can fly. You can not fly” And with that, the geese all flew away.
This made Ruffy sad. He had really been hoping that him and the geese could be friends, but he did not get discouraged. He decided to ask another animal to be his friend.
Ruffy walked further and he came upon some ants. Ruffy said to the ants, “Ants, will you all be my friends?”
“We would love to be your friends sweet puppy, but we are too little to play with you,” said the ants.
This made Ruffy very sad. Even animals that wanted to be his friend couldn’t!!!
Ruffy sat down on the corner and he began to cry. Just then a bright shiny ball bounced by. Ruffy loves to play ball! Ruffy started to get the ball, but then he remembered that he did not have anyone to play with. He sat back down and started to cry again.
Then along came a little boy that was chasing after the ball. The little boy saw Ruffy crying. He stopped and sat down next to Ruffy, and he said, “Little puppy why are you crying?”
“I do not have any friends,” Ruffy said in between sobs.
“What is your name little puppy?” The little boy asked.
“My name is Ruffy,” Ruffy said.
“Well my name is Little Chirp, and I will be your friend!” Little Chirp said excitedly.
And with that Little Chirp and Ruffy were friends forever.
The End
