It is February 29th of 2020. Potatoe and I are snuggled up in bed, and it is not even 8 o’clock in the evening. I am simply exhausted. Every so often, Potatoe lifts his fluffy little head to give me a weary eyed look that suggests to me that my tapping on the keyboard is interrupting his snooze.

Reflecting on the past few days; I find that so much has happened that it feels more like weeks have past, than days. Everyday this week there were things that made me extremely happy.

On Sunday, Little Chirp and I spent the day together. We spent a good portion of the day at TopGolf, which we both loved. I worked for a couple of hours while he hit golf balls, and then I joined him in playing. He loves to have the game all to himself for an hour or so, and then he wants me join in. We ate a very early dinner at Bo Bo Garden. We had not been there in quite sometime, yet our waitress, Cindy, greeted us both by name when we walked in.

On Monday, I had a crazy intense day of work, but I also had an amazing birthday. The day started with Little Chirp missing the bus, so I drove him to school, and we stopped for donuts on the way. There is a place on the way to school that has the tastiest jelly donut that I have ever eaten. I love that so many of my current and former coworkers reached out to tell me happy birthday, and I received flowers for the first time ever on my birthday. I love flowers, and I love Potatoe; imagine how happy flowers in the shape of a little white doggie made me. The boys cooked dinner. Dog Mom joined us for dinner, and this all made for a perfect evening.

On Tuesday, the day started with Little Chirp missing the bus, so I drove him to school, and we stopped for donuts on the way. It was Fat Tuesday, so why not? Work was stressful on Tuesday, but I took a mental break and treated myself to Peli Peli at lunch in honor of Fat Tuesday. That evening, Brainy Bird was at school late working on the robot for their robotics competition, so Little Chirp got to pick where we would go for dinner. Of course, we went to his favorite Italian restaurant.

On Wednesday, the day started with Little Chirp missing the bus, so I drove him to school, and we stopped for donuts on the way. This time I was on my Lent fast, so I did not partake of the treats. Wednesday evening, I joined a few close friends for steak night at Sportin’ Woody’s, which is my favorite bar on planet Earth. It was great to see everyone. I got to catch up with my old neighbors, my friend Laurie, who is an inspiring friend that survived a double lung transplant, my friend Kat, who I met when Brainy Bird was a fourth grader and my beautiful friend Tara. This was a perfect night.

On Thursday, the day started with Little Chirp missing the bus, so I drove him to school, and we stopped for donuts on the way. I was still fasting, so no donuts for me, but Little Chirp was again a happy camper. That afternoon, we finished the tasks that we needed to do in order to meet a huge project deadline work, so I treated myself to a glass of wine. The feeling of accomplished has yet to wear off. I learned that fasting and alcohol is a terrible idea. I also got to hang out with Dog Mom for the first time in a very long time.

On Friday, the day started with Little Chirp missing bus. I am not kidding. How is this possible? This time he had to hitch a ride to school with Brainy Bird. I had hours of work to get done before 9:30 AM, and I needed every second. At work at 9:30 AM, we got a “go” decision to move our project forward to parallel. This is a huge win for my career and for the company that I work for. I felt as if I was floating in air on Friday. There was a major mishap of me losing my car at the hospital, but I eventually found it. You know work is going well when you have to go to the hospital, and you still have an amazing day. That evening, I had a first date with someone that I met while country dancing in July of 2016. I was really happy to have someone to celebrate my success with. We drank happy hour champagne and caught up about work, kids and Star Wars. I gave him some insights on the art of software selection, and he gave me some financial planning tips. At the end of the night, he reminded me of what an exceptional kisser he is.

This morning, I woke up feeling warm and happy inside. I absolutely needed to get my nails done, but friends are more important. I grabbed brunch with Tree Climber and the Red Headed Yankee. We had everyone at the bar at Black Walnut laughing by the time we left there. I then went to Little Chirp’s play off basketball game, which was a win. Afterwards, I swung over to TopGolf to spend some time Em and her daughter V. We love our TopGolf. I then headed backed to Tomball for Little Chirp’s championship basketball game, which they lost, but it was still a great game. I never had time to get my nails done; the day was so much better spent with people that I deeply care about.

There is another long week ahead, but I am ready for it. Not everything that happened this week was positive. There were some huge disappointments and frustrations, but my mind and my heart are focused on the happy events of each day. I am loving my life.
