Today, marks the two year anniversary of our family’s adoption of Potatoe. Our sweet Potatoe is the first of the four rescue animals that we have taken into our home. I love Potatoe; he is my best friend. He is my confidant, and snuggle buddy. Potatoe comforts me when I am sad, and he lifts my spirits even higher when I am happy. There is nothing better than Potatoe bouncing to me when I walk in the door after a long day at work. Potatoe is loving and protective of his two fur brothers and his fur sister, who are all cats. We joke that Potatoe is the Cat Daddy. The four of them love to nap in one big huddle of fur.
I love reflecting on the description in Potatoe’s adoption profile from the Poodle Rescue. The adoption profile’s description of Potatoe is spot on. If only online dating profiles were this accurate.
Potatoe’s Adoption Profile (The rescue named him Potato; we added the ‘e’ on the end to go along with the extra ‘e’ in our last name):
Potato is a 4 year old, male Poodle mix with a white coat weighing 17 pounds. He is the size of a true miniature Poodle. We rescued him from an uncertain future at a public animal shelter. This is one great dog. We just can’t say enough about him. He is sturdily built and athletic and acts much younger than his 4 years of age. He craves attention and is eager to please. He loves to be taken out of his kennel and comes willingly and eagerly and walks well on a leash. He was cooperative for his photo shoot. Potato is a HAPPY dog and loves interacting with both humans and other dogs. He’s trusting, curious, adaptive, intelligent and learns quickly. He would make a great dog for a family with kids and would also probably make a great exercise/walking buddy or companion for an intermediate jogger. Although he has a playful side, he can also be calm, gentle, and affectionate and wouldn’t turn down an opportunity for a good cuddle. We love this dog. He’s that “just right” family pet. He’s the kind of dog that is going to greet you every single time with that “where have you been, I’m HAPPY to see you” wagging tail and smile on his face. To Potato, every day is sunshine and rainbows, filled with endless possibilities and he wants you to feel that way too.
I will never get tired of reading those words. Every word that they used to describe Potatoe is exactly right. Potatoe is so grateful to now be in a loving home. He absolutely craves attention, and I actually think that he is only about 4 years now, so he is younger than they thought.
Potatoe is my workout buddy; we LOVE running together. There are days when I have no desire at all to go running, but I go because I know how badly Potatoe wants to go. I always feel great afterwards. Potatoe is much faster than me, but he never runs ahead. I can go a longer distance than Potatoe, so I usually run a few miles with him, and then take him back to the house and run a few more by myself. Potatoe goes straight to his water dish when I let him back inside, and then he waits by the front window for me to come back.
Potatoe makes me feel like every day is sunshine and rainbows, filled with endless possibilities.

Thank you Guinnette for all that you do for the doggies that you rescue, and the families that get to adopt them. Thank you to all of the volunteers at the Poodle Rescue of Houston. Special thanks to Karl. Potatoe’s full name is Potatoe Karl Storey. Karl – We will never forget you.
