Today is the first bad day that I have had since the “New Normal” began. Most of my bad day has been driven by the fact that I am exhausted. I started work around 5 AM this morning. I did not take the time to get my positive mindset by writing or running; I just jumped right in. Now, 12 hours later, I am zonked.

I will get to bed early tonight, and tomorrow will be a new day.

On the positive, the stock market went up by 11% today. That is a definite positive.

What is new in today’s news: Harris County has issued a stay at home order, effective at midnight tonight, for all non-essential employees. The Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and New Braunfels areas have all done the same thing. The decisions are being made in Texas by the individual counties. The stay at home order does not change our situation much in that we have already made our decision to simply stay home. Of course, I hope that these measures make a difference and keep Houston hospitals from becoming overwhelmed with sick CoranaVirus patients.

Challenges with present situation: Seeing our government make the stimulus legislature a political issue is beyond frustrating.

Update on the Birds: Little Chirp is embracing homeschool. He has already finished all of his assigned work from his teachers for the week. He is looking forward to the special assignments that I am putting together for him for the rest of the week. Little Chirp is doing more reading than he ever has these past few days, and he is loving it.

Brainy Bird again failed to show up for homeroom on time this morning. This is becoming a frustrating situation. I feel that it is important that we continue to maintain normal schedules. This is not a vacation; we should not be making a habit of sleeping in everyday. I am hoping for a fresh start tomorrow.

Things I am grateful for: I am grateful for my job. Work has been my happy place all day today. I am also grateful for all of my friends that continue to check in with me. I am grateful for all of the extra time with my boys even when Brainy Bird acts like a teenager.

Shout out to a friend: I am exhausted, so this is going to be a short shout out, but an important one. Today’s shout out goes to Lyn aka Sunshine. I think all of the storms that we have endured over the years, and this gives me strength and confidence that this too shall pass.

I have so many happy memories of our church camp days together. Slumber Falls will forever be my favorite place on Earth.

We have had so many chapters of life together – our church camp days, our days of hanging out at high school parties, our college years, our years of weddings and babies, our years of raising teenagers, and now our years of being a part of an amazing Tomball community.

Lyn is always positive minded. She is an instigator of endless fun times together with friends and family. She goes out of her way to make everyone feel welcome and included. She is that best friend that one runs to when things go awry, and that friend that is popping the cork of the champagne bottle during the happy times.

Lyn is an incredible mother and wife. It has been a privelaged to watch her kids grow up into beautiful successful adults. I love that I am her son’s God mother. Lyn is an amazing parent in every way. She has encouraged her kids to follow their dreams, and they now have amazing lives because of her encouragement.

Lyn has served our country her entire career through the US Marshall service. The kinds of things that she deals with make the biggest stresses of my own job into mole hills, and she handles things effortlessly.

I have watched Lyn grow from rebellious teenager to one of the most respected and endeared people that I know.

Love you Lyn!

Positives with present situation: Today was a bad day. Bad days still have positives. I had a conversation with one of my coworkers today, and he has a very informed, optimistic outlook on our present situation. This conversation definitely picked me up from my slump. I work with incredibly intelligent people, and it is a privelage to be a member of the strongest team in the energy consulting energy.

Brainy Bird made lobster ravioli and homemade fettucine sauce for lunch today. This was amazing.

It is the little things in life…
