It is March 27, 2020. Little Chirp turns 12 today. We have declared a Storey School holiday in honor of Little Chirp’s birthday. Both boys are asleep at the moment. I will be working from home all day, but once the boys roll out of bed they are going to have a special day together, until I finish work.

The day will kick off with crab cake benedict. This is one of Little Chirp’s favorite dishes of all time, and it also happens to be one of Brainy Bird’s top choices. They share very few favorites. Then they are going to throw the football around the backyard, until it is time for them to get Dairy Queen blizzards. We had wanted to order cupcakes from one of our local bakeries, namely treat, but the local shops in our area have closed for the week. Little Chirp is obsessed with Dairy Queen blizzards, and he got a gift card for his birthday.

After blizzards, it is video game time until I finish with work. Then we will dine on steaks, salads and corn on the cob before we kick off a board game marathon. Little Chirp gets to pick all of the games.

What is new in today’s news: The US now leads the world in the number of reported cases of the virus. This could be related to the overall population of the US coupled with the amount of testing that we are doing. I saw a poll on MSN last night asking readers if they thought the worst had passed or was yet to come, the overwhelming response was that the worse is yet to come.

The British Prime Minister has also tested positive for the virus. He has mild symptoms, and he will continue to lead Great Britain from home. I guess he can start posting on the many social media groups about working from home.

Challenges with present situation: I am frustrated; I think that the stimulus package misses the middle class, as always, and I think that it is a short term fix. I also think that so many of our challenges right now are media driven frenzies. I have KHOU News on this morning, and the newscaster kept asking a doctor the same question again and again. She clearly wanted him to criticize Trump. He would not do it. That sort of thing is frustrating. Moreover, there are terrifying reports that there is a mass shortage of supplies in New York City, which is hit the hardest by the virus so far; meanwhile, there are warehouses of supplies in New York.

Fighting misinformation is as difficult as fighting the virus.

Update on the Birds: Today is all about the birds. Little Chirp is going to have a birthday to remember. Brainy Bird gets his SAT scores today. I have resisted the urge to take a peek.

Things I am grateful for: I am beyond grateful to be a mother. I am grateful for Little Chirp and Brainy Bird beyond anything else in this world. They are my world.

Shout out to a friend: Today’s shout out goes to Little Chirp. He has brought an incredibly positive attitude to our family since the “New Normal” began. Everyday he is smiling and finding reasons to laugh even when my jokes are not funny.

Little Chirp takes incredibly good care of his cat Storme. He shows Storme so much love and affection, and Storme in turn shows a great deal of love and affection to the other furs.

Little Chirp is a math whiz, but his real super power is writing. I love reading the things that he writes. I wish that he wanted to spend more time writing. Little Chirp is also a creative, methodical thinker. He was born with the mind of an entrepreneur, and this will take him a long way in our world. Little Chirp is a fierce competitor, yet how one plays the game is more important to him than wining.

Little Chirp is kind to others, and he believes in doing what is right even in everyone else is marching in the wrong direction. Little Chirp is definitely a rule follower, yet he his not afraid to question authority if it is not in line with what he believes is right.

Little Chirp and his giant blonde head are a shining light of positivity in our little family’s world.

Happy birthday Little Chirp!!!!!!!!! I love you beyond words.

Positives with present situation: While the work day will be long, I plan to log out at 5 PM no matter what, and then today is going to be a very special day with Little Chirp, Brainy Bird and the fur kids.

It is the little things in life…
