Rethinking the New Normal – Day 24 of 15

It is April 9, 2020. Day 24, ugh. I am not sure where 24 days have gone. This is the first weekday that I have started off with music instead of the news. I told Alexa to play music, and she tuned to Don Williams The Gentle Giant. I feel like Alexa knows me.

My thoughts are all over the place this morning.

On the US front: The news is starting to report less catastrophe and more positivity. The stock market is making a quick recovery. It is Thursday, so that means another unemployment report, which could impact the markets. The report is going to be bad; the question is just how bad is it going to be?

Hope: With it only being the 9th day of April, I am starting to feel hopeful that the “New Normal” could possibly be past us by May. Cinco de Mayo falls on a Tuesday this year, that would be a great day for a reopening of my sister’s Mexican food restaurant. I would find time for the first time ever to go to one of my sister’s restaurant events mid-week.

Reminiscing: I am drinking coffee out of Mom’s favorite coffee mug again this morning. My French press brew would meet Mom’s taste as I was busy with something for work when the coffee timer went off, so I let the coffee brew much longer than I meant too.

This morning, I was looking for something to make for lunch with the left over pinto beans from yesterday. Chili is the obvious choice, but I am sick of red meat. Did I just write that? Instead of beef chili, I decided to make chicken chili. This brought up a memory of Mom.

Some years back, quite a few years after Mom passed away, I asked my sister for a Mom’s corn bread recipe. My sister forwarded over an email of recipes that Mom had sent her when Mom was sick and knew she did not have much time left. Among the recipes in the email, I found MY white chicken chili recipe, which Mom has passed off to my sister as her own. Doh!

Easter Weekend: I have a long work day ahead in anticipation of taking off for the three day Easter weekend. The only time that I will be spending on my computer tomorrow will be to work on my writing.

I plan to start Good Friday off with a two hour run. The sun will rise at 7:00 AM, so I will start my run at 5:30 AM, so the last half hour I am watching the sunrise while I run. Sunrise runs are my favorite, and it is extremely rare that I get to go for a sunrise run on a weekday.

With the remainder of the day, the boys and I will spend time together in observation of Good Friday and Easter. I do not have anything big planned, just family time. We are loving our family time.

It is the little things in life.

It is time for me to tackle my work day. Thank you for stopping by to read my thoughts.
