It is Easter Sunday 2020. The day does not feel like Easter Sunday. What would normally be a day of church followed by a meal at a nice restaurant with the boys is a day at home by myself. I still have the 10 plastic Easter eggs that we used for last week’s scavenger hunt. I am thinking about putting quarters in them, and hiding them in the yard. It has been a few years since we had an Easter egg hunt. With just 10 Easter eggs hidden on a half acre of land, I should perhaps put dollar bills in them.

The local news is that the Texas Governor is going to release a statement this week reducing the restrictions of the stay at home order. This is when our government structure will come be tested, which it has been through out the whole ordeal. In all likelihood, our Harris Country government will not want to reduce the stay at home order restrictions. What happens when the state government says one thing and the local government says another? Living outside of Houston, the governor orders make more sense for us. I do not feel that our Houston mayor represents the interests of those of us working and living in the suburbs. We are feeling the implications of being largely uninvolved in our local government. It is confusing that Tomball has a mayor, yet we just seem to fall under what Harris county does. I could not even tell you the Tomball mayor’s name. In contrast, the city of Magnolia is blessed with an incredibly effective mayor, and they fall into a different country, yet they are just a few miles north of us.

The short of it is that the re-opening of our local economy has a great deal of complexity. I am praying that our local businesses will be allowed to reopen this week. When it does, I will be treating Potatoe to a spa day, my boys to dinner, and myself to a drink out with friends.

On a national level, even the liberal media is reporting positive news that the US is believed to be past the virus peek. There has also been major strides in the development and availability of testing for the virus, as well as advancements in treatment. President Trump has organized a “reopening the economy” task force.

I am hoping that I only have one more week to get my garage cleaned out and taxes done in that after this week, I will be back to commuting to the office every week. The commute puts an end to my extra time each day. It is likely that it will be longer than a week, but do not fault me for having hope.

The schools are not set to reopen until May 4th. I am hoping for this to happen. Many think that we will not return to school this year. I am going to have a challenge in front of me when I return to work, and Little Chirp and Brainy Bird are at home. We will work through this with a results oriented approach. If Brainy Bird continues to procrastinate, he is going to find himself in the car with me commuting to the office everyday.

I guess the theme of the week is, “wait and see.”
