It is Monday, April 13, 2020, today marks the end of the fourth week of the “New Normal”. What was originally set to be fifteen days in duration has now been a month. This morning’s headline news is Trump’s frustration with Fauci. Fauci is the federal government’s top infectious disease expert.
The feud is over Fauci’s statements that we could have saved more lives if we had shutdown the country sooner. I have major doubts that shutting down the country was the right answer at all. No one had any way of knowing what the effects of the virus would be, playing the blame game now solves exactly nothing.
The one thing that the WORLD should have done differently is more immediate research about the virus, and manufacturing of medical equipment to treat the virus. China thwarted this opportunity for preparedness with misinformation about the death toll of the virus in China, and a failure to alert the world sooner. The Chinese government became angry with the doctor that tried to raise alarm, and that doctor has since died of the virus. My guess is that the Chinese government did not know the virus would be such a disaster, and they feared what news of the virus’ death toll may do to their economy. I think the word for that is irony.
In U.S. history, we are taught that Americans who die in war die for our freedom. I believe this with all of my heart and soul. How does it make sense that we have taken away freedom now for a virus that kills less than 1% of the people that it infects? Hasn’t every major war resulted in the death of more than 1% of Americans? How is it possible that the government can so readily take away our freedom?
The biggest question – Would we be where we are right now, with our country’s economy shutdown if not for the mass panic the media spread?
I do believe that social distancing has merit in buying us time to do the research that we started too late, but I fear the loss of liberty way more than I fear the virus. I think we should have our choice to risk catching the virus by going about our daily lives. I think that small business owners should have a choice.
For every death from the corona virus there will be at least one suicide in the years to come brought on by isolation and difficult economic times. For every death from the corona virus there is a child trapped, RIGHT NOW, in an abusive home, without the escape that their school day brought.
We will never know what would have happened without the shutdown or if the shutdown had happened sooner. What matters now is that we come together. How do we forget our political affiliations? How do we put our country’s economy back on track? How do we aid the escalating mental health crisis that our nation faces?
I am sad that this crisis has not brought our country together. I wish that the politics would stop, and that our government would stop working against Trump. One’s opinion of Trump is irrelevant right now, he is our country’s leader. In times of crisis true Americans come together and do what is right for America, not their political parties.
I pray for our country to unite and to take back our freedom.

It is time to put my best foot forward and make the most of the week. I promise to write about puppies and kittens tomorrow. This is what is on my mind this morning. Thank you for stopping by to read my thoughts.
