It is around 6:30 in the evening on Thursday, April 16, 2020. I just finished a long work day. This is not my usual writing time. I usually write at the very beginning of the day or the very end.
Wheel of Fortune is coming on the TV, and the boys are next to me in the kitchen cooking dinner. Tonight’s feast will be chalupas, which is Brainy Bird’s favorite “go to” dinner. Little Chirp is stirring the pots at the moment, and Brainy Bird is grating the cheese. I am not particularly hungry, but I am looking forward to sitting down with the boys at the dinner table.
The two are now discussing the flavoring of the ground beef. We like to season our own ground beef for tacos and chalupas instead of buying a store made taco seasoning. Little Chirp’s assessment of big brother’s homemade seasoning mix, “It has flavor.” I guess Brainy Bird has passed inspection.
I am feeling hopeful this evening. Trump is focused on reopening the economy; he is leaving it to state governors. I believe in Governor Abbot. I am worried about what the implications of living in Harris County might be. I feel like the Houston mayor needs to be reminded that he does not govern the people of Tomball. We do not have the right to vote in the election for mayor of Houston.
The phrase, “Things are going to get worse before they get better.” has been said many times through all of this. For us in Tomball, TX this phrase fits, but it is not in reference to people getting sick from the virus. The phrase is in reference to the reopening our local economy, and the complications of being outside of Houston, but inside of Harris County. I know that Tomball will come together, and that we will work through this.
God speed to my fellow residence of Tomball. Let’s show the world what hard working Americans do in a time of crisis. Let’s come together, let’s support one another, and let’s get back to our lives.
