I never thought that I would be one of “those mom’s” so proud of my child at his pre-school graduation. Little Chirp’s big brother did not even have a pre-school graduation or a pre-school for that matter. Every child is different, and my two boys are WAY different.
I was so proud of Little Chirp tonight at his pre-school graduation; my first pre-school graduation as a parent. Not just because he looked adorable in his little cap and gown, but because he has truly grown as a little person this year in big ways. Back in September, I was concerned that Little Chirp might be dyslexic or that he had a vision problem. I had his eyes tested, and the doctor said that he was fine. Why did I think that there was something wrong? The little guy could not recognize the first letter in his own name!
I was in the process of finding Little Chirp a good pre-school when Nurse Neighbor told me that I absolutely wanted to send Little Chirp to preschool where he is already attending daycare. She said that Ms. Keasha is a phenomenal teacher. I seldom mention people by their real names in my blog. Ms. Keasha is the most gifted preschool teacher in the world, and I can’t help but put her name on that fact.
Little Chirp is definitely the opposite of a visual learner. If you ask him, “We have ten cookies and there are five people, how many cookies does each person get?” You will get an almost instant 2. Little Chirp can always identify his fair share of something. If you put a bunch of letters and numbers in front of him, you will get a blank stare.
Ms. Keasha presented letters and numbers in a way that Little Chirp could understand. Little Chirp fell in love with her on day one. Brainy Bird and I did too. She is passionate, caring and a truly gifted teacher. Now Little Chris knows his letters, his letter sounds and he has learned his basic sight words. This is awesome, except that for Little Chirp, pizza, donuts and cookie are all site words, no more kidding him about what is on the kids menu.
Little Chirp is ready for kindergarten, and tonight we celebrated that. I thank our Lord that we chose Ms. Keasha to be Little Chirp’s pre-school teacher, and I thank our Lord for choosing me to be Little Chirp’s Mommy.
Kindergarten! Here we come 🙂
