The Break in the Clouds – Day 12 of 30

It is around 5 PM on Saturday, June 6, 2020. The boys and I just finished an early dinner. Little Chirp made meatballs stuffed with feta cheese in marinara sauce, which he paired with Texas toast. Everyone in our family loves meatballs, and no one cares that much about pasta, so we had Texas toast instead of pasta.

I worked most of the day today. Little Chirp slept most of the day. Aside from his slumbers, he snuggled with Storme and did some reading. Brainy Bird worked on his online summer PE course, and played an online video game with one of his friends. I am pretty sure that most of his day was spent on the latter. I am not overly concerned by this. He needs a break, and if he does not complete his online PE class, he has to take PE at school next year. Knowing this, I cannot imagine he would drop the ball in the class. So far, he has completed two assignments, and he has a 100 on both.

Now, Little Chirp is baking cookies with Brainy Bird’s supervision in the garage apartment, and they are free to have “brother time” the rest of the evening. A great deal of their week has been spent on chores, and they deserve some fun time.

The two brother cats are wrestling each other inside the house, and Pumpkine just now came home a bit ago to eat her dinner. The yard guy was here most of the afternoon, and I think the noise scares Pumpkine. I am wondering if the neighbors gave her something to eat. She did not eat much. She is now laying with Potatoe by my feet on the back porch. I worry about some thinking that Pumpkine is a stray. She manages to take off every collar we have put on her, and she is so tiny. It is not that she does not eat enough; God just made her on of the smaller fur members of His animal kingdom.

The heat is incredible today. At some point mid afternoon, I was waiting for someone at work to get back to me, so I took Potatoe on what should have been a 10 minute walk. He wanted to stop and rest beneath the shade of every tree that we came to, turning our trek into a 20 plus minute walk. I could not blame him. It felt as if the sun was drilling into our eyes.

While the boys enjoy their “brother time”, I am going to spend my evening relaxing, sipping wine and working the book that I should have finished a long time ago.

Tomorrow, we are planning to dine out, and play games all day. It is official, “no work day”. I love the work that I do, and I enjoy doing work around the house, but I am in need of a “no work day”. After dinner tomorrow, the boys will head to their Dad’s house, and I will have a week to focus on work and to catch up on my running and writing. Most of time away from the boys these days is spent running or writing.

It is the little things in life.
