It is early on Sunday. I already went for my long Sunday run, and I am dressed and ready for the day. The boys are both still asleep. I laughed this morning when I came into the kitchen to find the cabinets spotless. Our cabinets are hard to get clean; we really need to replace them. I made a deal with the boys last night that the Storey family kitchen would be closed today, and we could go out for brunch and dinner if they cleaned the kitchen. This is the same deal that I make them on Fridays. Little Chirp loves this deal. He was excited that we had a new bottle of cleaner for the countertops. He cleaned them twice, and there is a noticeable difference in them this morning. It is the little things in life.
Half the fun will be deciding where we will go to eat. We will likely make a game out of that. We will make the day count as they will be headed to their dad’s house after our dinner tonight.
I plan to spend the next hour while they boys are sleeping planning my week. This week will not be as insane as last week, but it will be a busy week. I like that my plan for the week includes social activities! On Wednesday, I am going to have dinner with two of my closest friends, Em and K. We will go to George’s, Kelli’s favorite locally owned restaurant on their side of town. On Friday, I will be back on that side of town again for a friend’s birthday party. I hope to have brunch plans on Saturday. If I don’t then Potatoe and I will have “park plans”. I will likely take Potatoe to our favorite restaurant some time during the week. I am getting out a bit more each week, but like I said before, I believe that I will forever spend more time at home, which also means spending a lot less money.
The boys will be back here the following week, and then they will be gone for 2 weeks. The first week that they will be gone, Brainy Bird will be at church camp, and Little Chirp will be at Aunt Roni’s. Then they have a special vacation week with Dad. I think they are going camping. We have yet to plan a vacation this summer. I was waiting to see how things went with the reopening.
If we go somewhere, it will be Louisiana, Florida or Atlanta. One of my cousins from the farm is in Louisiana and the other is in Florida. I have friends in Altanta. Life for me is now more about spending time with people than it is seeing the world. Maybe I should have bigger dreams, but I really like my life and my life plan.
<Just took a break from writing to call my sister; we hadn’t talked in twelve hours, lots to catch up on>
I keep my phone in my room. As I made my way back and forth to the phone to call my sister, I realized that everyone in this house but me is asleep right now. Ambitious crew I have got today. Since I started writing, Trooper found his way to his basket. Pumpkine is laying on a blanket next to him. She has her own basket, but she does not want to be in one of the baskets unless there is another animal in it. Storme had been running around in the backyard, but has given into the temptation of the shaded hammock. He is stretched out on the hammock like he is posing for a vacation brochure. Potatoe had been chasing Trooper around; now he is asleep on the doggie bed underneath my desk.
This is not a bad start to our Sunday, not a bad start to our week.
Summer is officially here. It is the little things in life.
