On Tuesday, I had to go to Austin for work.  I was not looking forward to going.  I felt like the trip would reduce the overall productivity of my week.  I had better things to do than to trek off to Austin for a day.  I left for Austin around 3 PM on Tuesday afternoon, and it was still early when I got to the hotel.  I had plans with Banana.  I had not seen her in quite some time.  We have been friends, true friends, since we were four years old.

I took a cab from the hotel to meet her for dinner and drinks. I was just a few minutes late, and she was there already with food ordered and a glass of water in front of her.  Banana is the life of every party.  She is someone that people love to be around.  Social Butterfly would be a good blog name for her.  The blog name Banana comes from our grade school years on the play ground back when the boys flirted by picking on the pretty long haired girls.  If memory serves, it was Scarface that gave her the nickname Banana.  She hated it.  Now she looks back on those days and laughs.

Banana always has a drink in hand at happy hour.  Seeing the food and glass of water in front of her, I knew immediately, and before she could even greet me I burst out with, “Oh my God!!! You are pregnant!”

Banana just glowed in admission.  She is only nine weeks and not telling people yet, but she can’t tell a lie to save her life. And, my excitement put her on the spot.  I was in need of some good news, and this was awesome news.  I thought back to our elementary school days, and the boys chasing her around the playground, and then our college roommate years, and the boys chasing her around the Dixie Chicken in a different way.  We all wondered who the lucky man would one day be for the girl that is beautiful inside and out.  The lucky man is a successful doctor with strong work ethic and family values.  They will be married on Saturday, and their child is due on Christmas Day.  This totally made my night.
