It has been a long week. I woke up on Tuesday trying to decide if it was Thursday or Friday, only to realize we had not even reached half way point in the week. The announcement was made this week that the start of school will be delayed by three weeks. We are now set to start in person on September 8th.
Brainy Bird is making great use of the extra time. He spent the whole week sitting at the other side of the table that I sit at when I work. He is using the time to research and apply for colleges. Because of all of his research, his list of colleges has changed some. My hope is that he will get a significant merit scholarship to at least two schools, so that he will have a choice. Once he finishes with his applications, he will turn his focus to applying to scholarships. I cannot think of a better use of the extra time that he has.
I enjoyed a week of having my personal chefs cook for me. On Monday, Little Chirp made hamburgers. On Tuesday, they worked together to make salmon, snow peas and salads. On Wednesday, we had leftovers. Then on Friday, Brainy Bird roasted a whole chicken, which he served with corn and salads. This was hands down the best roasted chicken that I have ever eaten in my life.
Little Chirp got to go with a friend to a place called Splashway, which is a camp ground with incredible amenities, including a waterpark. I think I am going to look into taking the boys myself sometime. I love waterparks and I love to camp, so win-win. The campgrounds also allow dogs, so Potatoe could come too.
Speaking of Potatoe, he got into the neighbors’ yard yesterday. He ran through their shrubs, which are covered in purple flowers. When I found him, he was covered in the purple flowers. He was too adorable for me to get mad at him. It took awhile for me to pick them all back out of his fur.
The boys left late yesterday afternoon to go to their dad’s house, so I have the weekend to myself. I plan to NOT work today. I went for a long, slow run this morning. It felt good to be running even if I was moving at a snail’s pace. I need to find a running buddy. Brainy Bird said that he would like to start going to the gym with me, but he won’t go running. I don’t blame him as hot as it is out. I plan to look into gym options later on today.
My biggest curiosity right now is whether or not the stock market is going to have another major crash. Most are expecting a crash. I started slowly pulling my money back out of the market, and there has definitely been an opportunity cost in doing so. Nearly every stock that I have sold has gone up even more after I sold it. That said, I am up 43% for the year. I am not complaining, nor am I rethinking my conservative investment approach. I plan to spend a portion of my day tomorrow in stock analyst mode.
The upcoming months are going to be eventful. As a family, we are simply taking things one day at a time. That is all that we can do.
