Rainy Day – Literally, Not Figuratively

We went to bed to rain last night, and we woke up to rain this morning. I am pretty sure that the tapping sound that I heard through out the night is a leak in the attic. The garage apartment’s AC is out, and I can’t for the life of me seem to fix the leaking shower. The main house is a disaster as it is midway through the remodeling process, cleaning is futile as it just gets dirty again. We are down to one working shower, which Potatoe clogged up the drain of this morning when he came in from the rain covered in mud. I am completely out of money, and I am not sure how we are going to get the remodeling debacle to the finish line; especially, given the fact that the leak in the attic is not even sort of in the budget.

It is another day in paradise. I am not being sarcastic.

There was a point in time that I was beyond stressed out about work, Brainy Bird’s college application process and the remodeling. I am realizing that I cannot control most of what I am stressed about. I need to simply wake up, do my best and focus on the positive.

There are so many positives to focus on.

  • I have a friend coming over today to see if he can fix the shower. It is good to have friends!
  • The boys and I got to have lunch yesterday with our cousins that live in Florida. It had been way too long since we saw them. We can’t cook at home as we do not have a working kitchen at the moment, so being treated to lunch was also a wonderful thing.
  • Little Chirp got to go with Brainy Bird to their favorite little fast casual sushi place for dinner. This a cheap dinner, and a huge treat for Little Chirp. He loves to go places alone with Brainy Bird.
  • The kitties were adorably snuggled up this morning in Potatoe’s bed. I imagine they were cold from coming in from out in the rain, so they snuggled to warm up. They have not been happy about the mess of the remodeling, but it is heart warming how they stick together.
  • Potatoe was smart enough to head straight to the shower when he came inside covered in mud, so at least on the bathroom is a muddy disaster.
  • I love my job, and we should have yet another successful project come to completion this week.
  • Little Chirp is loving junior high, and he is practicing his basketball everyday. He is self-motivated and focused on making the team.
  • Brainy Bird is extremely optimistic about his college application process. He is confident that he is going to find the right home. He is handling the process completely on his own, and he spends a great deal of time keeping track of all of his applications and scholarships hopes.
  • I get to go see my nephew Charlie this week. The house is getting to a point of being unlivable, and my sister invited me to come work from her house. She is a neat freak (runs in the family), and her and her husband are phenomenal cooks. This will be a great refuge from the mess!

The future is truly bright ahead. Many say that one should not worry about anything that will not matter this time next year. Well everything that I am stressed about will be resolved by this time next year, hopefully sooner. I need to just buckle up and enjoy the ride.

It is the little things in life…
