Potatoe and I are at R&R Crafthouse. This is Potatoe’s favorite resturant, and it is one of the Birds’ favorites as well. We are out on the patio. It is 91 degrees in late September, but the sun is behind a cloud, and there is a nice breeze. We have finished our late lunch, and now we are just relaxing. Potatoe is taking in the scenery, while I sip my wine and work on my writing.
My heart feels peaceful.
I am looking forward to having my remodeling done. I am looking forward to paying off my remodeling. The cats all hate the remodel. I think that they are having secret meetings at night. They are considering finding a new home, but they have had so many good times at the Storey house that they are sticking around. Potatoe seems indifferent to it. As long as he is snuggled up next to me at night, not much else matters to him.
Brainy Bird’s SAT was again canceled on Saturday, so he is soldiering forward with his 1490. He spends a great deal of time doing even more research about the schools that he has applied to. We are in “wait and see” mode. My least favorite place to be.
Both Birds are crushing it in school. Little Chirp has 100’s in all of his classes except Algebra, where he has a solid A. He is learning his way around his first high school level class. Considering that he is only in seventh grade, I am quite pleased with him. He swears he is not, but I think that he is intimidated by being one of only 2 seventh graders in his Algebra class.
Brainy Bird also has nearly all 100’s in everything, but AP government. He continues to talk a great deal about his English IV AP class, which makes me happy. It occurred to me the other day that Brainy Bird is truly well-rounded. As a parent, I confess that I have absolutely no idea how this happens.
My primary goal for this week are to impress my boss with my part of the webinar that we are working on. I normally stay away from internal projects, but I am loving this one. My secondary goal is to put together a final plan for getting all of the remodeling done. I want to sit in my house on November 1st, with ALL of the work done. I want to think about Mom on her birthday. Finishing by November 1st is doable, but it is going to require some careful planning and execution on that plan. My third goal for the week is to run everyday. I somehow went the entire week last week without going for a run. My body hates me right now. I do not have a kitchen to cook in, and dining out is just so unhealthy. My fourth goal is to carve out some time to spend with friends. I have sadly been living in isolation. This also an unhealthy habit.
There is so much that I am looking forward to in the last quarter of this nightmare of a year. Brainy Bird should start hearing from colleges in the upcoming month. This will be a time of great ups and downs, and he is ready for it. Kyle will have his greatly anticipated basketball tryouts. The remodeling will be done, and we will again be enjoying our special little house. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving with my boys, my sister, Baby Huey and the beloved Uncle Robert. I am looking forward to Christmas with all of them. I am especially looking forward to Baby Huey’s second birthday.
I am looking forward to turning the page on 2020.
