Seek Medical Help for an Election that Lasts More than a Few Days

This blog is normally G rated, but I could not help myself…

The title of this blog has been a meme all over Facebook the past few days. Even now, this is making me giggle. Not sure when my sense of humor dropped to a junior high school level. Perhaps the sleepless nights of watching election coverage are catching up to me.

I am going to say something that could cost me some of my most treasured friends. I am glad that Biden won the election. The Democrats have won. They hated Trump; they did everything that they could, and he is now gone. Done! This comes at a time when rebuilding our nation’s economy is the greatest challenge that our nation faces. There is no question that Trump would be much more effective at rebuilding our economy than the Democratic leadership will be. Moreover, the likelihood is high that the Democrats in Washington will be a detriment to our economy over the next four years. We are going to go backwards, possibly into a recession or even a depression.

Still, I believe that we are better off without Trump. The career politicians that lead the Democratic party will continue to blame Trump for the backward slide of the economy. This will be frustrating to deal with, but we will move on.

Now, that I have angered everyone on both sides. Let me try to explain myself to those that are still reading.

First, how could I say that rebuilding our economy is the greatest challenge that our nation faces when our nation is torn apart by inequality and systemic racism? How is THIS not the greatest challenge that our nation faces? Honestly, inequality IS the greatest challenge that our nation has ever faced. My heartbreaks when I reflect on the events of inequality, injustice and racism that I have personally witnessed in my own life. I believe that economic prosperity is a foundation of the solution for all of this. We cannot bridge the gap in opportunities if no opportunities are available.

Second, how can I say that I am happy that Biden won the election when I know that this will be at the peril to our nation’s economy? Trump’s divisiveness is a problem in itself. The ideals of the Republican party are lost in Trump’s erratic actions as non-Republicans are focused on these behaviors to the point that they have stopped listening to Republican idealogy.

A basic principle of effective leadership is to unite. Not once in four years has Trump acknowledged any Democrat ideology. As a leader, you do not have to agree with the other side, but you need to acknowledge a person’s perspective. A leader needs to take the time to share the perspective of the opposition with those that support the leader’s position.

For example, I am completely against government run health care, but I 100% appreciate my cousin’s perspective on why government run health care makes sense. In our discussions, I find that we share the same values. We simply have different ideas of the solution. Interestingly, she is a Democrat and I am a Republican. Yet, when we talk, she is way more conservative than I am. My guess is that Trump would hate my cousin and call her names if she were in Washington. My cousin is one of the most intelligent, loving humans that I know.

The Democrats fight for the White House was NOT a fight for Americans. The Democrats fight for the White House was NOT a fight for socialism or abortion. The Democrats fight for the White House WAS a fight for power. Let us see what they do with this power.

Meanwhile, let this be a time for the Republican party to rebuild. Let this be a time for a leader to emerge that will unite our country on the American ideals of equality for all, rebuild our nation’s economy, and protect our nation from our true enemies.

Sometimes the darkest hour is just before the dawn.

I pray for our country. Ultimately, I pray that God does not give up on us. I pray that my Republican friends will begin sitting down to have conversations to truly try to understand those that side with the Democrats. I pray that Republicans and Democrats will STOP letting the media divide us.

I do not believe that the two sides are that different. I believe that each side has extremists that the media uses to tear the two sides apart. The media is our greatest enemy. I pray that we unite against our real enemies. I pray that Americans everywhere will see the enemy as it is and begin to love one another again.

I wish God speed to the man that was my former opponent and is now my president.
