This day has been a hot mess. Oddly, there were things that I expected to go catastrophically wrong that turned out to be just fine. Actually, they turned out to be better than “just fine”. Then there were things that I thought were just fine that turned out to be a disaster. I suppose that unpredictably is the theme for 2020.

Little Chirp was the highlight of my day. I picked him up from basketball practice, and he was excited about being in charge of dinner. His eagerness to help while I finished my work, and Brainy Bird studied for his two finals tomorrow made my night.

Tonight’s cuisine, prepared for us by Little Chirp, consisted of buffalo chicken sliders with gorgonzola cheese. We were supposed to have a side of tater tots with this, but I was in charge of the tater tots, and they did not turn out. They fell completely apart while I was frying them. I am at a loss to explain how I made a disaster out of such a simple dish.

Little Chirp’s sliders were perfect. I suppose we all need to double up on veggies tomorrow as we had none tonight.

After dinner, Brainy Bird had a great deal more studying to do, and I had more work to do. Little Chirp had asked if we could play cards, and neither Brainy Bird nor I had the time. Little Chirp responded by cleaning the kitchen, and then he disappeared for just a moment, and then emerged from the garage apartment with a box of brownie mix.

He said, “I know a way to entertain myself.” He occupied himself the rest of the evening by making brownies and doing laundry. After the day that I had, this was beyond appreciated.

Little Chirp is now in his room fast asleep. Potatoe is asleep in his little spot down at the foot of the bed. Pumpkine just curled up next to me. She is growing more and more affectionate. As soon as Potatoe wakes up and realizes that another fur kid is laying closer to me than he is, I will have a stinky ball of fluff trying to sleep on top of me the rest of the night. Luckily, tomorrow is Potatoe’s bath day.

I could write a long blog post about the bad things that happened today. I would rather think about the little things that made me happy through out the day. I have so much to be thankful for.

It is the little things in life.
