The ball just dropped in Time Square, ringing in the new year. That means that those of us in Texas have just one more hour 2020 to go. I am tired, and I am ready for bed, but some part of me wants to stay up to see the new year in. I have only stayed up until midnight on new year’s eve a handful of times.
The fireworks are going off nonstop here. Each of the fur kids are handling it in different ways. Potatoe and Storme have been piled in my lap for a good part of the night while I was working on my writing. Both were visibly trembling from their fear of the fireworks. Potatoe is now finally asleep underneath my desk, and Storme is asleep in the cubby above my desk. He continues to wake up and adjust his position as if he is not resting peacefully.
Pumpkine is enjoying her last night snuggled under the Christmas tree. She acts like she is hunting the pinecones and little animal ornaments on the tree. She buries herself in the tree skirt when the noise of the fireworks picks up. Trooper is wondering about, crying. He appears stressed by the noise of the fireworks, but he does not seem to want to be comforted. I tried holding in my lap, but the noise of the fireworks picked back up, and he ran. He is now crouched under the coffee table, meowing when the noise picks back up again.
I just read my New Year’s Eve post from 2019, and I find it interesting –
We ring in the new year in about six hours and 20 minutes. I am excited and happy. I am spending the evening at home with the fur kids. Our little family now has four fur kids – Potatoe, our dog, Storme, the cat that we adopted in 2018, and Trooper and Pumpkine, the kittens that we adopted in August.
The area of Houston that we live in is crazy over fireworks. Even last night, it sounded like a war zone outside. I am staying home with the furs to keep them feeling safe during the fireworks. This also means a night of snuggles by the fireplace, which I have been looking forward to.
The furs are one of the many things in my life that bring me a great deal of happiness. Of course, Brainy Bird and Little Chirp are at the top of the list of things that make me happy. My nephew, Huey is another. I love seeing Huey with my sister and his dad. The three of them are a beautiful family.
On the note of happiness, this past Saturday was simply one of the best days of my life. We had so much fun. The boys, Potatoe and I drove to New Braunfels for Huey’s first birthday. We had a little party in the park, and the dogs (Potatoe and my nephew pooch, Bently) had a blast. Huey was all giggles and smiles. It was nice to get to spend some time with my aunt, and to get to know my brother-in-law’s family a little better.
The simple things in life are what make life beautiful. I am looking forward to 2020, with a focus on the simple things and a positive mindset. I think, actually I know that 2020 is going to be my best year so far.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL
I had it partly right, the simple things in life are what make life beautiful, and I did focus on the simple things with a positive mindset. Of course, 2020 was not my best year, but I am here to ring in a new year, a new year of hope.
