In December of 2019, I wrote the following in a blog post:
Brainy Bird will start his senior year in 2020. He will apply for college, and he will likely know where he is going by the end of 2020. This will be the year of his last high school homecoming, and the last full year that he is a minor and a high school student. He was in third grade when I started this blog. I started the blog because I felt like life was running by too fast, and I just wanted to capture a moment of the best things in life.
For Little Chirp, 2020 will bring the start of Junior High. He is hoping to make the basketball team. He will get to reunite with his closest friends. A few months ago, we decided to downsize our home. Our new home is amazing, but it happens to be zoned to a different intermediate school, but the same junior high. This meant that Little Chirp said good bye to his best friends, but not for long as they will all be together again in the seventh grade. I think seventh grade is going to be an amazing year for Little Chirp.
There is nothing on planet Earth that makes me happier than my Birds.
Fast forward a year since I wrote this….
Brainy Bird did start his senior year, but there was no “last high school homecoming” because of COVID. He has applied for college, but he does not yet know where he plans to go. He is waiting on additional acceptances and most importantly scholarship information before he makes his final decision. He has exciting options in front of him. I still feel that life is running by too fast.
Little Chirp did make the seventh grade basketball team!!! He is now reunited with his friends in junior high. we still love our new home. Little Chirp is having an amazing seventh grade year so far.
In the upcoming year, Brainy Bird will make a decision on where to go to college, and he will start college in the fall. Brainy Bird is visibly excited about the days ahead as he learns the outcome of his college and scholarship applications. He is well prepared for the highs and lows of the college and scholarship application process.
Little Chirp will play in his first junior high basketball game in January, and he will be looking to make the basketball team again in the eighth grade. Little Chirp and I need to figure out how to adjust to life at home with just the two of us as Brainy Bird will be flying the coop and off to college.
I hope that by this time next year I have finished writing a book, and that I am continuing my career with the company that I love. I hope that I am in shape for running a half marathon has I did in years past.
I imagine Brainy Bird being home from college for Christmas this time next year. I hope that he will tell us all about it. My biggest wonder for 2021 is where Brainy Bird will decide to go to school. We will know that soon.
This year ends in 5 minutes. This year was not what anyone hoped for, but somehow we made it work. I am grateful for the time that I had this year with my birds, fur kids and close friends. I am grateful for my life. I am grateful for the simple things in life.
The year ends in 2 minutes. The fireworks are intensifying. I hate that the noise scares my fur kids, but I do appreciate that the fireworks are beautiful. The year ends in 90 seconds.
