Today feels surreal. Brainy Bird got the unique opportunity to be a part of a start up at age 16. He made an entrepreneur’s vision come alive with his programming skills by developing the prototype for her social media site.
The site made its official launch today – www.MyBlankJob.com.
I am the ultimate “tag along” in that I am going to start a blog series, “Finding Purpose” that will be featured on the website. This will be my first public feature. I love turning the world upside down. Instead of mommy getting the kid a gig, the kid got the mommy a gig. Even more exciting, Brainy Bird is likely to be asked to return as a developer for the live site. Needless to say, it is an exciting night for us all.
Amidst all of the excitement, we are having a typical evening in the Storey home. Brainy Bird and Little Chirp are in the middle of cooking dinner. I have just wrapped up my work day, and I am now writing this blog.
Tonight’s dinner is a shift from yesterday’s not so healthy experiment. The boys are making their baked salmon, topped with creamy lemon dill sauce, which will be served on a bed of cucumber mint salad. These are tried and true recipes in their wheel house. Little Chirp is finishing off his meal selection privileges in style. Little Chirp earned the privilege of deciding our meals the past few days with his outstanding grades.
We are also having scalloped potatoes tonight. This will be a first for the boys. My mother made this all the time. I have never successfully made it myself. Little Chirp has grown to like the steak house potatoes au-gratin, hence the addition of this dish during his time of meal selection privileges.
The boys are much quieter tonight than they were last night. Their conversation is just a word or two all related to their cooking initiatives. I think that this is partly because they have less to discuss as they each have their roles in making the salmon, sauces and cucumbers, which they have made many times before.
I think the other half of the equation is that they are both exhausted. Little Chirp practiced basketball in the driveway for a couple of hours today, and then he had two hours of practice earlier this afternoon. Brainy Bird got up early and worked all day on his research paper for his scholarship application.
They return to school tomorrow. I am so happy that they get to go back to the classroom.
A “reopening rollback” was triggered today in Harris county. This is driven by the number of hospitalizations because of the virus. I appreciate the concern over the hospitalization rate. Honestly, I am not sure what “reopening rollback” means. I am focused on the home front.
Speaking of the home front, I am going to post this, and then join the kids at the kitchen island to see if I can get a good discussion of toxic insects and plants going.
Thank you for stopping by to read my thoughts. I hope that you will check out a bit of Brainy Bird’s handy work at www.MyBlankJob.com. In my “Finding Purpose” blog series, I will share much more about how much the idea of this site means to me.
