It is the second Friday in January of 2021. Little Chirp is at his dad’s house, and Brainy Bird had dinner with his dad and is now in the garage apartment being a teenager, waiting for his best friend to get off work, so they can hang out.
This has been an eventful week. I don’t know where to start in the recapping of this week. The unemployment report in December is a reason for alarm, and this would be the top news story any other time. It was a blip on the map this week. We are still in the middle of a pandemic, and the White House was overrun by rioters.
On the home front, the week was normal for the boys. Little Chirp was up crazy early on Wednesday to get back to school. He enjoyed his week of basketball practice, and he is excited about his first game next week. We had to drag Brainy Bird out of bed on Wednesday. Brainy Bird is visibly happy to be back with his friends and favorite teachers. There were no new college updates this week.
On a personal front, I don’t even know what to say about this week.
Brainy Bird just popped over from the garage apartment to make popcorn. No pun intended. We make popcorn the old school way on the stove with oil and kernels of popcorn. This how Dad liked to make popcorn. It drove Mom nuts because he burnt it most of the time, and then the whole house smelled like popcorn. We have a different pot to make it in, a natural gas stove and Brainy Bird at the helm, so we avoid the burnt popcorn experience.
<break for popcorn>
Brainy Bird just left with his perfectly made bowl of popcorn. He used sea salt and actual butter instead of the usual butter flavored salt that we put on it. He can now add delicious popcorn making to his list of college life skills.
<break to give Storme a snuggle, as he just hopped into my lap>
We are only eight days into the year, and so much has already happen. I suspect that there is much more in store. Someone posted on Facebook today that they been a part of enough historical events already for the year, again we are only eight days into the year.
I have no idea what the year is going to bring. I wish that I did not spend as much time worrying about it as I do. All we can do is put our best foot forward each day. Right now, I can’t put my best foot forward because I have a cat in my lap. I will instead focus on the little things in life. Life is far from bad.
