The boys are off to their second week of school in 2020. We woke up to a weather forecast that said it was snowing. It is indeed cold outside by Texas standards, but there is no snow. Snow fell into the top story on the local news this morning, and this made for a nice change of pace.

I have now switched from the local news to business news. The futures suggest it is going to be a down day in the markets. I came into this week expecting this, so I took some profits in the days of the huge NASDAQ gains. I need to diverse my technology heavy portfolio, but I never seem to have the time.

As always, this is going to be a busy week on all fronts. Brainy Bird will hear about one of the biggest scholarships that he has applied to. He will either be eliminated from consideration, or he will be a semi-finalist. He will also finalize his research paper and last scholarship essay.

Brainy Bird never asks me for help. He asked me if he correctly completed his works cited page. This led to a discussion of what he learned from each of his long list of sources. His recollection of what he reads is uncanny. Ironically, this was nearly a two hour discussion, and the conclusion came to, “I have no idea how a works cited page works.”

He is going to run the formatting of his works cited page by his English teacher to make sure he has not done something egregiously wrong. He has spent so much time on this, it would be terrible to lose points for a technical error. I asked, “Is this something you all learn in English?” His response, “No, we learn about literature, but anytime I ask if she has time to talk to me she stops what she is doing, and says, ‘absolutely, that is what I am here for.'”

In addition to school and his collegiate search, Brainy Bird gets to see a website that he helped build a prototype continue its soft launch this week. I caught him playing around with the website yesterday. I think he likes seeing what his programming skills can do. I am impressed too!

For Little Chirp the big highlight is his first seventh grade basketball team. I am disappointed that the game starts at 4:30. I am either going to miss the game, or need to take a day of vacation. It is not a good time to take off work right now, so I am likely to miss the game. He says it is not a big deal, but it is a big deal.

For the fur kids, it is another week in quarantine. The situation works for them. The cold weather has adjusted their routines slightly. Storme and Pumpkine wanted to stay in side last night, and Potatoe is now pouting this morning because he had to share the bed with two of his fur siblings. Trooper does not seem to mind the cold, and did not even bother to come home for breakfast this morning. Pumpkine still wants to go outside, just for shorter durations. Storme has adopted Potatoes routine, only going outside to use the restroom. I think Storme would hibernate this week if we would let him. All three kitties are extra snuggly in their winter coats.

For me, we are wrapping up one project and starting another. I am also getting my much needed New Year’s diet going. It is incredible how much better I feel when I eat healthy. I am starting to think about the possibility of training for a marathon, which I would run in 2022 when I turn 45. The last big marathon that I ran was when I turned 37, where does the time go?

Thank you for stopping by to read my thoughts. Have a great week.
