It is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is a school holiday, but it is not a holiday for work. The boys are both sleeping in. My day is actually off to a late start, but I am continuing with my daily routines to get into a positive mindset. This just means that my work day will be a little longer as I am getting a late start.

Potatoe and I both slept much later than we do on a Monday. Pumpkine was outside the backdoor of my bedroom, waiting to come inside for breakfast. I called Trooper and Storme in. Trooper came barreling over the top of the back fence, and Storme trailed in on his on accord shortly after that.

I gave the kitties Friskies for breakfast this morning because it is WAY cheaper than the Purina One that I normally feed them. Despite being served breakfast late, so likely hungrier than normal, Storme ate very little. He is by far the pickiest of the three kitties. Trooper gobbled his share down, and then helped both Storme and Pumpkine with theirs. Pumpkine seemed okay with her new food, but I sense she likes the Purina better.

After snubbing his breakfast, Storme headed outside with Potatoe to play in our beautiful weather. They played a game of tag with the squirrels, and then headed back inside. Storme double checked his food dish, and passed over the bit of Friskies cat food that Trooper left.

Even though, I am running late this morning, I took the time to Potatoe for a morning walk. There is no better way to start the day. I love the serenity of my neighborhood. I love that it is a place that I can afford to live the rest of my life thanks to the absence of an HOA and low property taxes, coupled with a low mortgage. People seem happier here than they did in my old neighborhood. I think that it is because nearly everyone is living below their means, thus they feel less stress. I also think that the neighborhood has a positive energy.

I am ready to start my work week. I am just now “logging into” the world outside of my peaceful home. CNN’s major headline is, “Biden’s term will end an administration awash in corruption: A battered nation haunted by sickness, death and division is heading into an epic week with the transfer of power from one president to the next.” Fox’s major headline is, “State of Uncertainty: Congressional leaders silent on details of Trump impeachment trial, with inauguration just days away.”

The presidential inauguration is on Wednesday. Washington DC is on lockdown for fear of more violence. I continue to pray for my country. I continue to try to balance the importance of staying informed with the need to stay positive. Staying positive means focusing on the little things in life and being grateful for all that we have, namely each other.
