Today, I noticed tiny green buds at the tips of the limbs of the fig tree. In my always hopeful heart it is a simple of things beginning to bud in 2021.

I am sitting on my back porch. Potatoe is laying close by waiting for a squirrel to come into the yard. There is a slight glow in the canopy of the trees along the side of the house. Aside from the occasional airplane flying over, it is a peaceful evening. I love my back porch.

Little Chirp is grabbing a shower after his long basketball practice. They have their second game tomorrow. He continues to rock it both on the basketball court and in class. He says that seventh grade is easy. I don’t think that the other kids feel that way. He has definitely found his rhythm in school.

Brainy Bird is cooking us one of his signature meals for dinner. We are having baked salmon with creamy lemon, dill sauce paired with cucumber mint salad, roasted potatoes tossed in olive oil and sea salt and dinner rolls. Just typing that sentence has made me hungry. The cucumber salad is so good that the boys negotiate with one another how much of it they each get. Even the smell of it is extremely pleasing.

We are anxiously awaiting to find out if Brainy Bird has made it to the next round for one of his major scholarships. We are expecting news today, but given that it is almost 6 PM, I think it is likely that we will not know until tomorrow. The college application and scholarship process is quite the ride!

I came into the week with a solid mindset, and I feel the difference. My anxiety is half of what it has been over the past few months, and I am full of energy. I find myself looking forward to the work day, instead of thinking ahead to the weekend.

It has been way too long since I sat outside and watched the evening go from light to dark. This is such a calming way to end a day. So many great experiences in life are free.
