One of the features of MyBlankJob is the “Sound Off!” forum where users can commiserate about their jobs situations. I like this feature in that sometimes we just need to be heard, and it demonstrates that we are not alone in our job frustrations.

I am truly blessed with a job that I love. That does not mean there is never a time where I would like to vent about something work related that agitates me. What I find interesting is how much the 2020 pandemic changed job frustrations for so many.

Pre-pandemic one of my job annoyances was commuting to work. I drove more than an hour and a half each way. A large portion of my commute involved traffic at a complete stop. My biggest frustration would be to get to the office to find out that the person that I was there to meet with had decided to attend the meeting virtually.

Delayed flights and the mad rush to leave my client site and get to the airport in time to catch my flight was another pre-pandemic job “pleasure”. There was also the constant disappearance of computer chargers, mice and flash drives. I often considered being “one of those people” that labels their office equipment.

What I wouldn’t give to go back to that set of challenges, well minus the commute, the commute was just awful. For all that it took away, the pandemic gave me back three hours a day of my life.

Today, my job challenges are people that are clearly not paying attention on conference calls. The guy that consistently shows up late for the call and requires a regurgitation of the first fifteen minutes of the meeting. My iRobot seeming to have a mind of its own and starting the second that I log into an important call. The fear of an internet outage during an important meeting. My 12 year old flushing the toilet while I am on a call with my entire team. The guy that “Zooms me” the second I log into Zoom every morning.

I fully appreciate that many face much bigger job challenges as a result of the pandemic. MyBlankJob provides all with a discussion forum. The site provides valuable resources for people to find new opportunities and adjust to today’s world, while reassuring us that we are not alone!
