“Back to normal” what does that even mean? I am sitting at my desk in my kitchen sipping my first cup of coffee and getting my Friday work day started. I normally start my days much earlier, but Potatoe and I did not want to get out of our nice warm bed this morning. After the nights of sleeping in a freezing cold, dirty bed, a night in a warm clean bed was amazing.
The sun is shining; it is a beautiful, cold day in the making. The remaining patches of snow, mother nature’s only visible reminder of the chaos of the past days , will be melted away by the end of the day. The day “feels normal” unless I turn on the news.
The news will remind me that some are still without power and many are without water because of broken pipes from the freezing temperatures. Some have substantial damage to the interior of their homes because of water pouring out of broken pipes. Our garage apartment is in that boat, but we are lucky to have minimal damage instead of substantial damage. The boys patched the ceiling yesterday. We got the leak in the pipe fixed, but the water is still not working. I was extremely busy with work, and did not have time to focus energy on figuring out what is still wrong with the plumbing.
Brainy Bird’s high school also experienced substantial damage. The schools have been closed all week because of the icy roads and power outages. Now, Brainy Bird will be doing school virtually next week. The damage to the school was caused by the pipes of the sprinkler system, and the new computer lab is among the classrooms destroyed by the water damage.
I will have another busy work day, and then in the evening, I am going to sit by the fireplace with the fur kids and actually work on my book. Tomorrow, I am going to get my hair done in the morning and then work the rest of the weekend to catch up on everything that has been delayed due to the power outage this week. On Sunday, I am going to find a patio somewhere to take my Valentine to an early dinner for a late Valentine’s Day celebration.
This week has reminded me of all of the things that I am grateful for. My children, my fur kids, warm meals, hot coffee, fireplaces, the comforts of home, my coworkers that actually care about our wellbeing, my friends that opened up their home to us, and the beautiful morning sunshine.
