The reality for many professionals right now is a less than desirable work situation. MyBlankJob recognizes a need for a platform that allows professionals to share their work challenges.
I love my job. That does not mean that I live a frustration, stress free life. Corporate America is controlling costs by demanding more and more of employees. Being employed right now almost universally means feeling the strain of immense workloads with little time off.
We all need to blow off steam from time to time. I recommend not venting to coworkers. Anything that you say could possibly be used against you later. Additionally, it only furthers the stress of one’s situation by spreading it internally. I highly recommend collaborating with coworkers and engaging in effective conversations on how to improve one’s work environment.
I also do not recommend being the person that shows up to happy hour, devours a basket of chips and salsa and downs two margaritas in under 30 minutes, while venting about the stresses of their job. Okay, I admit that was exactly me a few weeks ago after a week of Murphy’s Law in action on every front. The problem with this is that it is a total buzz kill for the rest of the happy hour goers, and so many are looking for work. Folks don’t want to hear about the woes of those fortunate enough to have an income.
I do recommend finding a community where you can share your unique work challenges, and finding out that your challenges may not be so unique. If you have not already done so, check out MyBlankJob. There are some interesting posts on the “rants” page. One of my favorites being Bear2020’s post describing the cult of their work environment. I have seen a great deal in my career, but I have never worked for a former escort/stripper as Bear2020 describes in their post.
The most important thing to know is that you are not alone, and you have resources available to you to make a change. Stay strong and give MyBlankJob a try.
