As we begin to have a sense of hope with the reopening of our great state, is it time to begin thinking about the path of one’s career?

We are two weeks into the full re-opening of Texas. On March 16, 2020, nonessential businesses were shutdown in response to the pandemic of the CoronaVirus, aka COVID19.

I often wake up thinking that 2020 was a dream. As I wake, part of me is telling myself to hurry and get out of bed to beat rush hour traffic, and part is telling myself that no one is going to the office right now. We are all still working remotely. The latter part of me is correct.

I am one of the grateful folks that managed to keep their job through the shutdown. I am fortunate enough to work in an industry that is conducive for working at home. Moreover, I am fortunate to work for a company that cares about their employees and our safety. I immensely enjoy my job.

As we begin to have a sense of hope with the reopening of our great state, many are in a different situation. For many 2020 was a difficult time of job loss. For others it was a time rethinking priorities and career goals. Virtually everyday, someone reaches out to me on LinkedIn looking for career advice and ideas on how to change their current path.

It is with a bit of irony that all the while I have been working away remotely, my son has been doing the same as a developer for MyBlankJob. The purpose of the site is to form a community where folks can share their frustrates about current employment situation and find resources to help them make a change.

It is a bit poetic that as my son is just beginning his career, his biggest opportunity so far has been being a part of the development of the MyBlankJob website, a site devoted to helping professionals make changes in their careers. This has been an incredible experience for him. I suspect that great things are in store for both MyBlankJob and my son.
