The present job market presents unique opportunities for a change.
On my nine mile drive to meet a client for breakfast this morning, I lost count of the number of help wanted signs that I saw. Employers are willing to take risks on less experienced employees in order to fill job openings.
I am not going to form an opinion on why there are so many job openings. Is it because people are choosing to stay on unemployment rather than returning to work? Is it because people are forced to stay home because of a shortage of child care? Is it because families that previously had two incomes discovered they can live on a single income and have more time with their children? Is it because of the continued rise in the gig economy? Is it because of a strong economy? Is it because of a shift in employees moving to different sectors of the job market? I am not sure.
What I am sure of is that the present job market presents unique opportunities for a change. Do you ever think back to your childhood and what you wanted to be when you grew up? Does this in anyway resemble what you do today? How satisfied are you in your current job position?
I personally love my job, but I desperately need time off. I wanted to be a writer as a child. As a grown up, I am extremely happy with the path that my career has taken, but I hate that I do not have more time to write. I hate that I have not had a week off in more than a year. I need balance not a change. Do not mistaken temporary burn out because of a lack hiring in 2020 as a reason to make a major career change.
Assess your present job situation carefully. What about your job makes you happy? What frustrates you? What is temporary verses a reality of your present position? If you were to leave and take on a similar position with another employer, what would actually be different? Is it time to make a change all together? There has never been a better time to entertain such a change.
Take a look at the “Finding Purpose” section of MyBlankJob. You will find a great assortment of resources to help you evaluate your options in today’s unique, opportunity filled job market. There is a great deal of truth to the old saying that one should find something they love doing for a living, so they never have to work a day in their lives. I personally never feel like I am working when I am writing. Writing is what I love.
