We are under a flash flood warning until Thursday morning. We experienced heavy rain last night, and water accumulated on our back porch for the first time since we redid the patio area. The worse rain is expected on Wednesday evening. So far, my herb garden and beautifully landscaped front yard are holding up. The lilies did not appreciate the hard rain, but they are still alive.

Yesterday, illustrated why major exams stress me out so much. I always worry that something unexpected will happen to derail Brainy Bird’s testing process. A fire alarm, stomach virus, I think of all that could go wrong, and I worry. Brainy Bird forgot to take his watch off for the Statistics AP exam, and he got disqualified from the exam. They know for sure that he was not cheating. There was nothing on his watch, and his watch does not have cellular service. His phone, which is the watch’s only source of data, was checked-in and turned off. Despite all of this, the protocol is that he is disqualified from the exam.

A distraught Brainy Bird called from a school phone, and I did not answer, so I did not catch up with him until later in the day. The ramifications of the honest mistake were a stressful day and that his test is cancelled. He actually does not need the course for college degree. He just took the class and exam because he loves math and statistics. It is frustrating because he would definitely have gotten a five on the exam, and this is good for the school.

On the positive, I think this will cause Brainy Bird to take pause before major exams in the future, and make sure that he is following all of the testing protocols. This is like losing a regular season game when one is undefeated before getting to the championship game.

On top of the exam debacle, both the senior top 10% tea and senior awards ceremony rained out this week. The school rescheduled both events for next week. The upside of this is that Brainy Bird can focus completely on his academic advising appointment today.

Another rainy day lies ahead, I believe that today will only be a literal rainy day, and not a figurative rainy day like yesterday.
