On Friday, Brainy Bird walked the halls for the last time as a high school student. Just thinking about it gives me chills. The last official day of high school is Thursday. This upcoming week of school is all exams, and Brainy Bird is exempt from all of his exams. He is finishing the grading period with all A’s, including a 100 in statistics, 99 in engineering, and 98 in calculus 2.
On Tuesday, we will attend his top 10% tea, which is an event for all of the students in the top 10% of Brainy Bird’s class. Brainy Bird’s high school is one of the best in all of Houston, and it is ranked nationally. Finishing in the top 10% of Brainy Bird’s class is no small feat.
On Wednesday, we will attend Brainy Bird’s senior awards ceremony. As I said last week, I am definitely looking forward to this. Both the top 10% tea and senior award ceremony were rained out last week, thus rescheduled for this week.
On Saturday, we attend Brainy Bird’s graduation ceremony, followed by dinner with the closest of family and friends at our family’s favorite restaurant.
One might be wondering what Brainy Bird is doing tomorrow. He is going to school. What? He is going to attend his first period computer science class on Monday, so that he can play the video games that everyone else submitted for their year end assignment, which was due this past Friday. My translation of this is that Brainy Bird’s assignment was a bit over the top, and he wants to share it with his fellow computer nerds. While this is not the way I would choose to spend my first day of summer vacation after high school, I can appreciate that he is excited about it.
I always say that it is the simple things in life that make life worth it. For each of us, these simple things are different simple things…
