I started my day super early to get everything I can done today before the busy work week kicks off tomorrow. Potatoe did not want to get out of bed at 5:30 AM on a Sunday, so I gave him a good belly rub and left him snuggled up in his favorite blanked on the bed. His friend Oreo stayed the night last night. Oreo, a much younger pooch, expressed delight when I went to get him out of bed. All three cats stayed outside last night. None of them are that excited about Oreo’s visit.

Oreo and I were not the only early risers. Brainy Bird was up and ready to go before 8 AM. He is headed on a camping trip with three of his friends. He is driving to New Braunfels this morning, and then meeting my sister at her restaurant for lunch. The two of them will spend the day together, and then Brainy Bird will head to Enchanted Rock tomorrow afternoon with his friends for the much anticipated camping trip.

The camping trip marks the first of many adventures that Brainy Bird will trek on without Little Chirp and I. Both Brainy Bird and his best friend enjoy hiking and exploring new places. They cannot wait to explore the trails around Enchanted Rock. I am envious of their adventure, but not envious of the heat. We are in the middle of a major heat wave. They may wind up heading back to my sister’s house before the trip is over.

I ventured on my own trails this morning. There are miles of trails around the bayous and green belts where we live. The rain kept me from the trails for quite some time. The trails drain well, but they need about 24 hours to drain after a rain fall, so with the recent daily rain fall, the trails have not been an option. The heat and humidity beat down on me from start to finish on my trail run this morning, but I could not have loved my run more.

I discovered they are building new trails, and the new trails include a bridge from my side of the bayou to the other side along with paved path ways. The work is in progress, and the bridge and trails are not yet open, but it appears they will be soon. I cannot wait to run across the bridge, and I cannot wait to explore the new trails as well as the trails that have always been there on the other side of the bayou.

Happy trails!
