At 8 PM last night, the thermometers here in Houston, TX registered readings in the high 90’s. This morning, we are already up to 81 degrees, and the day just started. I have no idea how Brainy Bird is surviving this heat on his camping trip. Him and his friends are undoubtedly determined to enjoy their adventure.

Little Chirp spent 2 hours at speed and conditioning camp yesterday morning. He is used to having ample time outdoors as he spends so much time on his home basketball court outside. He told me yesterday the heat at his camp was unreal. This was from 7 AM to 9 AM, so the heat was just getting started.

We are having a hard time keeping the house cool without blowing our electric bill. We have free electricity from 9 PM to 9 AM, so I am already making lunch, so we can cool the house back down before our free electricity ends. We have lived in this house since September of 2019. Our time here includes an entire year of being home all day everyday. We never had the AC on during the day until this week.

To put it simply, we are in the middle of an incredible heat wave across the state of Texas. Concerns are rising that we are going to have power shortages. ERCOT is asking everyone to conserve power, and this is once again putting ERCOT into the line of fire. I wonder if and when Texas will join the national power grid. I do not think that the general public fully understands the pros and cons of doing so. I admittedly do not know myself.

As for our little family, Brainy Bird is enduring the heat wave for the freedom of being with his buddies on their camping trip. He wanted to purchase just six bottles of water for his three day trip. Luckily, my sister remedied that, and she sent him with a large case of water. My guess is it will be completely gone by the end of the trip.

Little Chirp and I are eating lunch at 9:00 AM this morning, so the house won’t be so crazy hot. We plan to go to the gym again today instead of running and playing basketball outside. I am shifting my workload to the latter half of this week, and taking vacation time in the afternoons in order to enjoy time with Little Chirp.

All of the fur kids are inside napping together on their new day bed. They usually lay in a pile together. Today, they each have their own space on the bed as if they too are trying to stay cool in the heat wave.

Despite the heat, so far we are all having a great summer.
