On Thursday, the boys and I went into Washington DC and visited The Smithsonian Natural Science Museum. I had forgotten how much there is to see in DC. I loved being in our nation’s capital.

I found our interests at the museum to be wildly different. I could not wait to get to the insect zoo. Little Chirp showed no interest in the insect zoo. He wanted to start with the exhibit on pandemics. I will admit, I found this to be interesting, but if it had been up to me, we would have skipped it. Little Chirp did not want to go to the precious stones exhibit. Brainy Bird appeared to find this the most interesting of all of the exhibits.

Little Chirp and I move quickly through the different exhibits. Brainy Bird moves slowly, reading virtually every bit of information along the way. About an hour into the trip, we decided to split up and let everyone go at their own pace until it was time to meet back up for lunch.

For lunch, we intended to go to a sushi place. We arrived to find that they were only serving take out. We had no place to take our food to. We wound up at the Capital Grille. I had never taken the boys to a Capital Grille before, so this was a big treat. Little Chirp ordered lobster bisque, a fillet, and mashed potatoes. Brainy Bird had a Caesar salad and seared tuna. He raved about how delicious his meal was. Little Chirp then had a “brulee’d” cheesecake for desert. This included fresh strawberry syrup, which was unbelievably good.

After lunch, we headed across the street to the art museum. At the National Art Museum, Brainy Bird and I both agreed our favorite part was the building itself. That is not to say the art is not magnificent; it is to say the building is absolutely magnificent. They even have an exhibit about the building of the building.

We then headed to the spy museum only to find out that we could not get in until 4:45, which was hours away. It was the day of Little Chirp, and he said he wanted to play miniature golf, so we did exactly that. We then grabbed an early dinner at a locally owned Italian place in Bathesda. This may be the best Italian meal we have ever had. It was also inexpensive.

After dinner, we went to the Escape Game. Of course, Brainy Bird solved the puzzles, and we escaped the room. I underestimated how much I would enjoy doing this. I enjoyed it so much so that I am already looking online for another opportunity to go this weekend, or to go when we get back to Houston.

We got back to the hotel around 9 PM last night. Brainy Bird and I were exhausted. Little Chirp thought he should be able to stay up and watch Netflix. I made him turn it off after one episode of the The Flash. Tomorrow, is the day of Mom. We are going on a guided tour of DC in the morning and a food tour in the afternoon. Needless to say, I am excited!
