I just walked to Starbucks in 66 degree weather. The forecast predicts we will be at 70 degrees in the next hour, but that the temperature will hold there for several hours. The temperature plus the overcast skies is perfect hiking weather.
I am enjoying my morning coffee, waiting for the boys to finish getting ready and pick me up so we can go and enjoy our hike. The start of the hike is about eleven miles away. We should be done with the hike in about four hours, so the last hour will be hot, but we will be starting with a perfect morning.
Every year that we have gone on a family vacation with just the three of us, we have spent a day hiking. Some of our favorites were the time we trespassed to hike up a mountain and a mile across the mountain range to get to the Hollywood sign, the wooded trail to an amazing waterfall in Pennsylvania, and a long, rocky hike along the banks of the river fed by Niagara Falls.
Today’s hike will be the Billy Goat Trail. The hike is of moderate difficulty, with great views once one gets to the top of the rock formations. After our hike, we will do whatever Little Chirp’s heart desires. We have already been to the Smithsonian, all of the major monuments in DC, Six Flags, and miniature golf.
It has been a jam packed few days. I would not complain if Little Chirp wants to chill back at the hotel this afternoon after our hike. I can pretty much guarantee that will not be the case. My guess is TopGolf and back to one of the museums. We will see what the day will bring!
