If there is a word in the underlying success of companies that triumphed during the pandemic, the word is pivot.
If I could, I would call in sick this morning. After feeling unusually tired yesterday, I went to bed early, only to wake up in the middle of the night with fever and chills. I am not sure what is wrong; other than it is not Covid. I was tested on Sunday and yesterday for Covid, and the results are negative, and I have the Covid antibodies, so it is unlikely that I would get another active case of the virus.
Instead of being in bed, I am at my computer getting my day started more than an hour later than normal. I keep taking a sweat shirt on and off as I am hot one moment and freezing the next. I feel even more exhausted today than I did yesterday.
I planned to go into the office for internal meetings this afternoon. Instead, I will pivot, and resend all of the meeting invites to use Zoom. That word…pivot. The only time I have felt anything other than wrecked with fever this morning was when I logged into MyBlankJob and found the latest site name, which made me smile:

In Houston, over the past couple of weeks, many companies began their carefully thought out phased approach to returning to the office, only to have breakthrough cases derail their plans. The employees and their company leadership are pivoting to change their plans to address the new wave of Covid.
The need to pivot is not going away anytime soon, whether it be a pandemic or rapidly changing technology, to be successful, business owners and employees need to be able to pivot their plans, and employees need skills to adopt to the inevitable shifts in direction. No doubt, the MyBlankJob user community recognizes this, as they went so far as to vote “Pivot” in as the latest site name. The creators of the site recognize this and provide their users with a wealth of resources for professionals to grow their skills in a forever changing work in environment.
