Today went as planned, and we are about half way to Columbia, South Carolina. I am teasing Brainy Bird about being the worst road trip companion. He stayed out late with his friends last night; he spent the day dozing off on the eight hour car ride. He then took a two hour nap when we got to the hotel. All this driving exhausts him, but he has yet to do any actual driving.
Aside from Brainy Bird being sleepy bird, our trip is going well. We did not run into any major traffic problems, and we arrived safely to our first stopping point, which is Biloxi, Mississippi. I am glad that we did not plan to go any further than we did today. I felt completely done with driving by the time we got here.
We did not talk much on the trip as Brainy Bird was asleep for most of it, but he said he is nervous about starting college. I remember when he felt nervous about starting high school. Something tells me this will be a hundred times better than high school, and he will do even better than high school. Still, I appreciate that moving fifteen hours away from home can be a bit overwhelming.
This time next week, Brainy Bird will be on his own at college, having just completed his first day. He will have two classes his first day, vector calculus and his four hour computer programming class. He will rock both. I am excited for him.
It is time for lights out…it is not quite 8:30 PM. It is my turn to get some zzz’s. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s big day of Brainy Bird sleeping on his way to college.
