About three hours after I hugged Brainy Bird good-bye and left him at his new home, I called to tell him that I decided to start driving back, and that I would be stopping in Biloxi for the night. He was in the process of helping his roommate move in. I could tell he was in high spirits.

I decided to start driving back to Houston yesterday afternoon. Being a morning person, I am usually tired by the afternoon. Yesterday, I felt full of energy. On the drive back, I started to think about my own new beginnings now that Brainy Bird is off to college. Little Chirp and I already have our new routines of cooking healthy and going to the gym, but I now have more time to myself. I decided to enjoy my drive back to Houston, driving when I felt like it, rather than burning up the road on Monday and Tuesday.

Yesterday afternoon, I felt like driving, so I drove all the way to Biloxi. I now have two whole days to make the remaining six hour drive, which means I get time to relax. I slept until 8 AM this morning, after having arrived in Biloxi at close to midnight. Then I went for a morning run on the bridge over the coast. Now, I am eating breakfast deciding what to do with the rest of my day. This is called a day off, and I have it all to myself.

In one of the Facebook posts from the University of South Carolina, they have a set of memes giving advice to freshman. One of the memes says to stop and take it all in because it is such a special time and the time goes by so fast. This is true about all of life, and for the next two days, I will be stopping to take it all in. I could rush home as that is what I am programmed to do, but why?

I am going for a walk on the beach now. While I am walking, I am going to think about the things that I would like to be doing with my new free time rather than things that I think I should be doing. Stayed tuned…
