All of us over 40 remember when virtually anything mail order had, “Please allow 6 to 8 weeks for delivery” in small print on the order form. I had a flashback of this just now when I went on to Amazon to order a poster for Little Chirp’s new study. The poster is in cool gray tones. An adorable, timid little kitten looks at its reflection in a puddle and a strong, ferocious tiger stairs back in the pond’s reflection. The words on the poster read, “Mindset is everything.”
I hope he likes it.
I wanted it to arrive over the weekend, but the earliest available delivery date is next Friday. I thought to myself, “What? I have to wait eight whole days to get what I want?” Then I reminisced of the era when eight days would have been considered expedited shipping.
This experience is one of a thousand examples of how much the world has changed in just twenty years. There are things I would like to go back to, and there are things I do not miss at all.
I will wait patiently for the special poster to arrive, and I will surprise Little Chirp with it when he arrives home from school on Friday. Eight days of delayed satisfaction are officially in the making…
