I had planned to spend the evening sitting on my back porch working on my book. A major downpour literally put a damper on things by leaving behind stifling humidity, without providing much relief from the heat. Instead, I am sitting at my desk with the news streaming on my iPad while I work on my blog.
I poured a glass of wine a bit ago, but I have yet to take a sip of it. A steak awaits me for dinner in the kitchen. I am not sure how I plan on cooking this steak without Little Chirp’s expert steaking cooking skills. I am looking forward the taste of the steak and wine together.
I treated Potatoe to a high end dog food made of salmon and sweet Potatoes, and he gave me an appreciative snuggle before he settled back on the couch next to Trooper. Trooper got up off the couch just long enough to try to get some of Potatoe’s special dinner. He wound up settling for his dry food when Potatoe pushed him away from the dish of yum. Potatoe must have really liked his dinner; he normally will sit with a sad face while the cats dine on his dinner, without doing anything about it.
There is little good news streaming on my iPad. The New Orleans police officer, murdered in a robbery at a restaurant in Houston, was laid to rest today. Two suspects are in custody for the crime, and they have been denied bail. Both were out on bonds for other crimes when they took the life of the police officer.
Hurricane Ida continues towards New Orleans. Ida is expected to make landfall tomorrow, the 16th year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Having not flooded in Katrina, or ever for that matter, my cousin and her beloved companion, Marvin, are going to wait out the storm. Marvin, her oversized baby, is a rescue dog that my cousin fell in love with while fostering him. My cousin is in my thoughts and prayers. I also know that she is way more prepared than the average person to deal with any kind of disaster.
Earlier this week, a suicide bombing took the lives of hundreds in Kabul. The attack took the lives of 13 Americans. In response, the US launched a drone strike, which is believed to have taken the lives of two key ISIS leaders. I am not sure that I knew before the past few weeks that the Taliban and ISIS are separate entities. They are enemies for that matter.
I am off to cook my steak and enjoy some Saturday evening snuggle time with Potatoe before I head to bed early this evening. I am excited about the week ahead…
