I am sitting at my desk in the front room of the house, which is now officially my office complete with both a coffee bar and a wine bar. College Game Day streams on the iPad sitting on my desk. My best pandemic shutdown purchase was a stand for my iPad. Seeing college football in full swing makes me happy.

Coming into the weekend, I had big plans to clean out the barn today, garage on Sunday, and the remainder of the house on Monday. I woke up feeling completely wiped out, and I am now taking the day off. I may not do any deep cleaning at all this weekend.

I plan to let Little Chirp sleep in, and then I am going to take him out for breakfast, and then to the store to buy colored pencils and markers. He is really getting into his school projects, taking a great deal of pride in his drawings. He says he needs a larger set of colored pencils as his current set only has two shades of green and two shades of brown, which is not enough shades to draw a proper tree.

I am not sure that he really needs both markers and pencils, but it is his money, and I let him spend his money as he chooses. I wish we had gone to this system a long time ago. He has a long list of responsibilities at home, and in exchange he gets $250 a month. He now buys all his own clothes, schools supplies, pays all school expenses, pays for his own haircuts, and he can use the remainder for whatever he wants.

So far, at the end of every month, he has purchased stock with his remaining money. With his money left over from August, he purchased a high end basketball. I feel no need to pay mind to how he uses his monthly allowance, but so far, I have been impressed. The $250 a month may sound like a lot, but I am saving a great deal with this system. I spent considerably on the boys each month before we started this system. The system also results in a highly motivated Little Chirp doing chores around the house.

After lunch, we will come back to the house so that he can work more on his history project. I plan to hang the picture that I purchased for his new study and to do a little online shopping. I finally got glass votives for my favorite candle holders, now I need candles. Both the glass votives were broken in our move here two years ago. I am not sure where the candles went off to.

This evening, I had plans to go to a friend’s house to watch football, but I think I am going to need to stay in tonight and good a good night of sleep. I do plan to relax more than normal this weekend, but I do not want to completely blow off my ambitious to do list.
