I am sitting at the table behind the couch in my living. Both Potatoe and Trooper are asleep on the couch in front of me. The Florida State/Notre Dame game plays on the living room TV. Notre Dame leads 7 to 0.
My head and lungs both hurt, and my tummy growls every now and then. Little Chirp and I anxiously await the arrival of our pizza from Dattz, our new favorite locally owned pizzeria. While he waits, Little Chirp works in his new study. He is working on his history project, which he takes a great deal of pride in.
I did not get the garage or the barn cleaned out as planned today, but I do feel that I made productive use of my day. With Little Chirp’s help, I cut apart and burned the massive pile of tree branches that had been on the side of the barn for months. A headache and chest pain are my reward. I am happy to finally have the area cleared out. A few months ago, a huge branch fell from a tree right out front of the house. This made up about half of the pile along with all of the branches that I trimmed off two of my trees.
Little Chirp has also had a productive day. He finished organizing his room and study, and he went on a little spending spree, purchasing art supplies for his school projects and pictures for his new study. He loved the picture that I purchased for him, and this made my day. He hung the picture above his new desk in his study, and he hung new curtains in his bedroom. He gained experience using a level, drill, hammer, and a screw driver. He did a fine job, and he did it all independently, while I tended to our little bonfire.
Little Chirp just emerged from his study looking for dinner. Potatoe has joined him in the kitchen. Our pizza is now 30 minutes beyond the estimated delivery time. Little Chirp is heating up pita bread to tie him over until the pizza arrives.
Potatoe is looking sad that he is not getting any. Potatoe is not getting dinner tonight. He is in the doghouse for eating ALL of Trooper’s food today. We relocated Trooper’s food dish into Little Chirp’s study, and Potatoe was able to get to it. It is now up on a shelf where Trooper can get to it, but Potatoe cannot. Potatoe senses that I am upset with him, and he is trying apologize by setting his head in lap. It is working.
Florida State just tied the score with Notre Dame. I am so happy to be enjoying football season again. Speaking of college football, Brainy Bird attended his first ever college football game as a student yesterday. I plan to call him to hear all about it tomorrow.
Little Chirp just finished chowing down all of the pita bread, and he returned to his study to get more work done on his project. I am now on the phone with the pizza place. Our pizza just came out of the oven, and it is one its way. It will be a solid hour late when it gets here, but Dattz is totally worth the wait.
I am enjoying the weekend. The weekend does not consists of anything exciting; we are just using the time to get stuff done around the house, but I enjoy spending time with Little Chirp. We are both enjoying the results of our labor. The front room, kitchen, living room, Little Chirp’s room, and Little Chirp’s study are all now clean and perfectly organized. I plan to tackle the hall closet, my room, my bathroom, and Little Chirp’s bathroom tomorrow. I discovered today that it is simply WAY too hot to be outside for any significant amount of time. Little Chirp and I both agree that the garage and the barn can wait until fall weather arrives.
While we wait for the fall weather, I am enjoying all the other things that fall brings. Fall is for family, friends, food, and football. It is the little things in life.
