Hurricane Nicholas upgraded to a category 1 hurricane and made landfall in the early hours this morning. As with any major storm there are cases of extreme damage. One example being a tree fell onto a small mobile home. It is miraculous that the people inside were not injured. On the whole, relative to other storms in our not so distant past, Hurricane Nicholas has not been a major event.
The roads are a mess with high water and accidents. Power outages are scattered through out the city. My in-office meetings and Little Chirp’s school are both cancelled. Little Chirp and I have no place to go, and I am looking forward to a day in my pajamas. I am literally spending the day in my pajamas. I often work from home, but I always get dressed because I take Little Chirp to school, go for a run and have video conferences. I do not plan to do any of those things today. I have yet to even look in the mirror this morning.
I normally wake up around five in the morning feeling well rested. I did not get up until six this morning, and I feel awful. I considered going back to sleep, but having already slept for nearly ten hours, I did not think that more sleep would help me feel any better.
I have now been awake for almost two hours. I feel physically tired to the point that getting up to refill my coffee or let Potatoe outside feels like a laborious task. I do feel mentally awake after a couple of cups of coffee, and I will make it through at least the first half of my work day.
Little Chirp planned his day before he went to bed last night. His plan consists of sleeping late, eating the leftover London Broil from last night with some scrambled eggs for brunch, and then finishing the decorating of his new study. He then plans to work on drawing with his new set of high end colored pencils until it is time for him to make dinner.
Sadly, I did not get the decorating of his study done over the weekend. There is no way that I can do this today. It works out well that he has the day off from school. I am also looking forward to having him cook me dinner tonight.
The rain has stopped, and it is now the wind’s turn to take the stage. The yard is already riddled with small fallen tree branches, and I imagine there will be more by mid-morning. Potatoe likes running around the backyard when it is windy. I like seeing the leaves in the yard, even if it is not really the result of fall weather.
It is time to get my work day started. I am hoping that I can get the critical tasks done, and then take some time off to rest today. I think that most people are over the side effects from the vaccines in about 48 hours. I am hoping that if I get some rest, I can be back to normal this time tomorrow morning. This time last year, my health was something I took for granted. I am definitely now realizing how lucky I was to have stayed healthy for so long. I hope to be back to a long run of healthy days again soon.
