I have not seen a post on Facebook referring to the Cowboys as “Cowgirls” since the first week of the NFL season. Either my, Mommas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys post helped Texans everywhere learn the fine art of football banter after all these years, or the Texans are losing and the Cowboys are winning. I do find posts from Cowboys fans about folks hopping on to the Cowboys bandwagon to be premature. Let’s be sure that little wagon really is on a roll before we hit the smack talk, shall we?
This is exactly the sort of conversation that I would have had with Melissa or Chris if they were still here. Could the Boys really be contenders this year? What sort of fool am I for even thinking this after just four weeks of the NFL season and three Cowboys wins?
Who is that dude on the Cowboys sideline that looks like he stops at Dunkin Donuts each morning on his way in to work and has a two to one creamer to coffee ratio in his cup with his donut holes and sprinkles? Is he making the play calls? If so, buy that man a drink next month when he turns twenty one.
On the defensive side of things, I am digging Trevon at cornerback. I am pretty sure that he needs just four more games with an interception to tie the record for number of games with an interception in a single season. Four more interceptions this season in four different games, sounds like a great deal, but he is already four for four in the games played. What is four more?
I cannot believe that I am getting my hopes up about the Cowboys. When I am crying in my beer later this season, I know that I only have myself to blame. Damn, the Cowboys are winning and Urban Meyer was caught with “girls dancing on him”, while on the road with the Jaguars, who are now in second place for the most consecutives losses of all-time in the NFL. Melissa, Chris, so much to talk to you about my friends. I could also use help from both my creative writing classmates on that massive run on sentence about Meyer.
Win, Lose or Tie – I am a Cowboys fan until I die. Where does that leave the two of you? The Cowboys have not even started losing yet, and I am sitting here crying as I type. I imagine that you are both still as big of fans in Heaven as the two of you were fans on Earth.
To Melissa and Chris – I deeply miss our Cowboys comradery and ridiculous chats about the games. Now, it is just me and the blog. For those reading this, thank you for dropping by to read my thoughts.
