It is late morning on a cloudy Sunday. I cannot stop smiling. I am spending my day in PJ’s planning my week and watching Sunday football. Whisper is laying on top of my laptop, fighting off a nap, like a little toddler. Echo lays next to her, not yet ready for a nap. NFL pre-game is playing on my iPad. Trooper decided on a nap a couple of hours ago, and he is now curled up on my bed as if hiding from another game of chase the playful kittens. Potatoe is outside per his own request. Either he needed a potty break, or he smelled an intruder in the yard.
Yesterday, I picked up Little Chirp in the late afternoon for a haircut and some shopping. I enjoyed the conversation that Little Chirp carried on with my hair stylist, while my hair stylist did my hair and then cut Little Chirp’s. Little Chirp has become particular about his appearance. Not only did my hair stylist give him a great hair cut, he charged him a Sports Clip price.
Little Chirp and I then headed to the outlet mall, which I discovered to be the perfect place to take Little Chirp to shop. Little Chirp gets an allowance that he can then spend on whatever he wants, but he has to pay for EVERYTHING – his clothes, haircuts, school supplies, school fees, etc.. This approach gives him so much independence, and it means money gets spent on what he actually wants. He loves to shop, but he is a bargain shopper. The outlet mall is perfect for him.
After we shopped, we indulged in a nice dinner at a locally owned Italian restaurant. A sign of a great restaurant is a note at the bottom of the menu saying that if one does not find what they want on the menu, ask and the chef will see if he can create it. I enjoyed the dinner and the conversation with Little Chirp.
I then took him back to his dad’s house where he is spending the weekend. Brainy Bird was back on campus after his day trip to an amusement park with some of his friends. I found that I could relax knowing that he is home safe. I then logged into Facebook for the first time all day, and I found that the Aggies upset #1 ranked Alabama. That is a HUGE upset. No one saw this coming.
I sorted my mail to find a check for $6,700, which is the refund for the warranty of my car that I sold last week. Brainy Bird does not need a car while living on campus, and it just did not make sense to own two cars. He really wanted to keep his, so I decided to sell mine.
I went to sleep last night feeling happy on all fronts. I woke up this morning feeling well rested and happy.
I am excited about the week ahead. Today, I am going to watch football all day, while I get a few things done around the house, plan my work week, and start my holiday shopping.
Tomorrow, I will actually go to my client’s office. I really like the folks there, and I am looking forward to actually seeing humans during my work day. I am even looking forward to the long commute, where I will start a new Audible. When I get home, I will be greeted by Potatoe and my sweet little kittens.
I will eat healthy all week, and I will find a lower number on the scale at the end of the week. (Maybe if I keep telling myself this; it will actually happen.)
Little Chirp and I have plans to go to one of our new favorite restaurants for steak night on Thursday. I am going to let him in on my plans for the November Elf, so that he can enjoy the spirit of giving and fun of planning special things for others with me. This will be the first time that I have shared November Elf plans with someone else. I know he is going to peek at his anyway. I might as well bring him in on the planning.
The kittens are now awake from their cat naps, and it is time for a game of kittens in boxes. I don’t think the kittens will ever tire of this empty box.
Fall, football, kittens, time with Little Chirp, holiday plans, these are a few of my favorite simple things…
