Once again the days have flown by, and I have gone months without a blog update.  And once again, there is so much going on.  Little Chirp is off to first grade, and Brainy Bird is diving into sixth grade.  Neither child was excited about starting school.  I think that we had too much fun over the summer.  Over the summer, we took a trip to Hershey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Coney Island.  Both of the boys went to overnight church camp, and they each had an extended summer trip to their favorite Aunt’s house.  I would not want to return to school either if I had as much fun as the two of them did over the summer.

When Little Chirp arrived home the second day of first grade, I asked how first grade is.  Little Chrip’s response, “It is AMAZING.”

I don’t think that Little Chirp has any idea that learning goes on at school.  He is enthralled with socializing with old and new friends, what Mommy packs in his lunch bag each morning, what games they play in PE, going to computer lab, and whose birthday party he will be headed to on Saturday.

I am very happy to hear that Little Chirp has adjusted so quickly to the return of school days.  Brainy Bird on the other hand isn’t very happy about heading into sixth grade.  The Pre-advanced Placement (pre-AP) classes that he is in are nothing but a tremendous amount of work.  Brainy Bird is acutely aware that kids who are not in the advanced classes are having a lot more fun in the sixth grade than he is.  Their lives are centered around sports, who is talking to who on the play ground, and planning the drop off and pick up strategy for their trip to the movies on Saturday.  It doesn’t seem fair.

That said, Brainy Bird is extremely self-driven.  He may not like school, but he is determined to do the best that he can.  He is only eleven, and he is already thinking about where he will go to college.  He wants to go to Texas, Duke or Harvard.  That is quite list of options.  Where ever he goes, I hope he has a little fun along the way.
