Thanksgiving, a Wedding Date and a Voicemail

Life has been really serious lately, too serious.  Let’s lighten it up with some good news.  My brother, also known as the Birds’ favorite uncle is getting married in January.  I could not be more excited.  I think that he has found someone that truly loves him, and I welcome my new sister into the family.  I won’t lie, I really hope to be getting a niece or nephew some day too, but let’s take things one day at a time.

My brother is notorious for his lack of communication or off beat way of handling things.  The announcement of the wedding was no exception.  It was a Wednesday, and I was playing trivia at my favorite sports bar for the first time in years.  I was so happy to be back there.  I was especially happy to find out that Lawman and KIA were there too.  They were now on a team together.  Back in the day Lawman would sit by himself and beat the entire bar.  I was also happy to find a respectable selection of wines on the menu.  I am just not a beer drinker anymore.  I had so much fun being back at trivia night!!

The most important rule of trivia is that you can’t be on your phone.  The game is not much a competition if shmucks are looking up all the answers on their phones.  This meant that when my brother called, I did not answer the phone, so he left me a 30 second voicemail.  I did not realize that I had a voicemail from him until I got home around midnight.

I want to save that voicemail forever.  It goes something like this –

“Hey, just wanted to let you know that Thanksgiving will be at 2pm, and we are counting on you and the boys to be there, and let me know if there is anyone else that you want to invite.  Also, we set a date for the wedding.  It is January 19th”

WEDDING????

I missed the part where they got engage!  I played the message a few times, and I was tempted to call my brother in the middle of the night to get the details.  Instead, I was exhausted, and I fell asleep.  I woke up early the next morning thinking that the voicemail was one of those dreams where things all run together.  Thanksgiving plans…wedding plans…

Sometimes, when I have a lot on my mind I have crazy dreams that all of my worlds are colliding.  I got ready, and I drove into work laughing about my dream.  Around mid-morning, I looked at my phone, and I saw last night’s missed call from my brother, and then I flipped over to my voice messages, and saw that there was indeed a message from him.  It wasn’t a dream.  It was in fact a 30 second message of both Thanksgiving and the setting of a wedding date.  I was so excited!!!!!!!

I then proceeded to call my brother through out the day.  I needed details!  How did he propose?  Are there pictures?  What does the ring look like?   I am a girl!! Girls have LOTS of questions about these things.  My brother is never good about answering the phone during the day, which never bothered me until that day.

I finally got him on the phone to find out that he had not yet proposed, but that his bride to be had set the date because she wanted to get married on their anniversary.  I could tell that he was super excited about the upcoming nuptials, and I told him that he had better hurry up and propose.  He is running out of time!  Perhaps, he will bust out with the ring over the Thanksgiving Day festivities 🙂

The Birds and I are now booked for a trip to Vegas in January to welcome their new aunt to the family.  I feel truly blessed to be a part of this upcoming celebration.
