Tomorrow, we ring in the new year. Having FINALLY finished my 2022 goals, I am excited about tomorrow. My excitement is on a micro-level. On a macro-level, I am sad to see 2021 go. The year of 2021 for my family was the year that we beat incredible odds. That said, I wholeheartedly welcome 2022. Nothing says that the trend of positive, against all odds outcomes cannot continue.

My excitement surrounding tomorrow is the plans for the New Year’s Eve Day itself. I will wake up early, but not too early. I will go for a short run, and I will grab my shower. I will put on makeup for the first time all week. I will then make the Christmas coffee that Brainy Bird picked out for tomorrow. The one he chose is cinnamon shortbread, which I have been saving for a special day. I think it will be especially delicious. Typically, anything that involves cinnamon and coffee is a win.

The boys and I will make brunch; I might propose that we go out. We have not been out to eat all week. Little Chirp will make that decision. If he yields the decision to his older brother, it will be ordering takeout from Ta Bueno. Ta Bueno is big brother’s favorite locally owned Tex-Mex.

We will then hang out and play some dominoes or strategy games. Then at 2 PM, the boys will drop me off at Perry’s Steakhouse. I will be meeting up with Yvonne, Page, Doc, and Rissa for an early New Year’s Eve toast. I don’t go out on New Year’s, so this is as close as I can get to a celebration to ring in the new year. I plan to enjoy the Perry’s Reserve Caviar, which is a relatively new menu item.

I am obsessed with caviar. The obsession makes absolutely no sense. Little Chirp is vocal in his disdain for my desire to order caviar, which I have actually never done. He says ordering caviar is a way to through away money. This is coming from a kid that appreciates fine dining. I told him that he could get fireworks to set off in the evening after my trip to Perry’s. He scoffed at this idea, shaking his head in disbelief, “Seriously? An even more ridiculous way to waste money?”

Funny, I was not serious about buying fireworks; I just wanted to see Little Chirp’s reaction. I can say with a high degree of certainty that if Little Chirp ever goes on a date, and the date orders caviar that it will be over right then. If I ever want to really make Little Chirp mad, all that I need to do is buy some caviar and light up fireworks while I eat my caviar on the backporch.

Little Chirp is absolutely right in his assessment that caviar and fireworks are good uses of money. I do believe that people should pay their bills and set aside their savings, and then they should spend what is left on whatever makes them happy.

Tomorrow, my caviar will make me happy. What will really make me happy is toasting to the new year with my friends.

Happy New Year!!!
